Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wow, what's with that, Mary??? I ALWAYS post when I'm on vacation    . Just kidding, of course! Hope you had a wonderful vacation and that "re-entry" is going smoothly. I'll say a little prayer for you!

Our photoperiod for Mar 28 is 12 hrs, 13 min.

Our clue tells us that our country has four neighbors, three of whom speak the same language as our country. We found out that El Salvador, Mexico, Belize, and Honduras border Guatemala and that these all have Spanish for official languages, except for Belize, which has English as an official language. We also learned that there are 21 dialects of ancient Mayan spoken in Guatemala, although our clue says its only 20. So, we still think it's Guatemala!

The clues are fun!

That's neat, Caroline. Thanks for your continued enthusiasm for JN.

From our latitude and extreme daylight we have known from the beginning that we (#3) are in Antarctica. The clues are just confirming that and not helping us narrow down the actual base. They will likely happen with next week's clue.

We've also picked up # 10 since Betty couldn't do it any longer. From the latitude estimate and longitude calculation we had figured it was South Korea. The clue today confirms that seems to be correct - it is on a peninsula with another country it can't visit.

Mystery location #6 photoperiods:

March 21   -- 12 hours 9 minutes
March 28 --   12 hours 23 minutes

After our Longitude estimate...we were guessing somewhere in the middle east.

Now, after the clues, we think our country is Israel.....our answers to the clues in parentheses:

1. 2 languages spoken--one is ours alone (HEbrew) and one spoken in many other countries (Arabic)
2. There is a SEA on one side (Mediterranean), a river on the other (Jordan) and 2 lakes near the national border (Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea---which Pete says are technically "lakes"---why are they called SEAS??? I ask!)
3. Located on the edge of a continent (Asia) on the border of another one (Africa) and close to another (Europe).
4. One of these continent borders changed about 30 years ago, because of a political action. (Sinai Penninsula):
Quote:
Israel occupied Sinai in the Suez Crisis of 1956, and secondly during the Six Day War of 1967. In the October War of 1973, it was the site of fierce fighting between Egyptian and Israeli forces. In 1982, after the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty of 1979, Israel withdrew from the entirety of Sinai.

For #4, the photoperiods are

March 21st: 12 hours, 8 minutes
March 28th: 12 hours, 16 minutes

My ds is home, so I hope to examine the clues a little more closely this week!

Mystery Location #5:

March 21 - 12 hours 6 minutes
March 28 - 11 hours 56 minutes

Interdisciplinary clues --
These are confirming our original suspicion that our mystery location is somewhere in South Africa...with last week's clues, we've narrowed it specifically to the country of South Africa.

1. The longest river and largest desert are on this continent:
    Longest river - Nile
    Largest desert - Sahara

2. "Our country is one of the world's largest sources of a metal that comes in leaf, dust, plate, nuggets, bars, bullion and coins. We're also rich in official languages."
    Republic of South Africa
