Joy. Lent. yep.
I am just getting over shingles, and one of my eldests (17) has chicken pox this morning. Interesting thing is that she was one of the vaccinated ones...
Advice for natural remedies, comfort measures and distractions appreciated and craved.
Did I mention that I have 9 kids and the baby is just 7mos old?? I pray she doesn't get it. Sigh!
Thank you friends for all of your support!

Praying that this all goes easier than you fear it might.
Maybe your big girls (and the other vaccinated ones) won't get as bad a case? Also, according to my ped., each subsequent case caught from the siblings will be a bit worse. I know, not what you want to hear. Soaks in the tub with warm/cool water and baking soda soothes. Caladryl gently dotted on to the pox themselves helps, too. We gave oral benadryl, but that's not a natural kind of thing, so you might not want to do that. It did help itchy kids sleep, though.
This, too, shall pass.
Peace,
Nancy

Praying!
Soaks in the tub with oatmeal helped a bit here. Caladryl has been a major help when I've had itching from allergic reactions -- on my back lasting for months, bad enough that I draw blood from unconsciously scratching.
Benadryl wires some of my kids, so if you decide to try it you might want to test during the day first.

Oh no! I am praying for your whole family. I am one of those people that doesn't have an immunity to chicken pox. I have had it twice and had the vaccine and still don't have immunity. Some people are just like that. I hope the whole family doesn't get it, especially the baby. Hang in there!!!

Praying for you and your family, Donna Marie! I think it may also have been Lent several years ago when my hubby got the shingles.

My kids caught this 2 days after Annuncia's birth..yep that and a heart virus..I'll be praying it stays mild, if bubs catches it, most likely to be very mild.
You're certainly having a lent and a half...is there a connection between the shingles episode and chickpox outbreak I wonder???

One of my dds caught chicken pox from me. I had shingles and the rash is directly contagious. Before the rash broke out, my lower back ached badly and I thought I had hurt it lugging around the baby in the carseat. My dd and her twin were taking turns rubbing arnica on it. (The other twin had chickenpox after being vaccinated against it but had an extremely mild case and no one else got it at that time.)
Chicken pox is very contagious where shingles isn't. You have to come into direct contact with the rash of shingles to get it, as I was told.
Now that one dd has it, the rest of the kids are looking at her like the grim reaper..LOL This makes our lent very long. We are awaiting the second wave of ick. At least I am somewhat prepared to fight
