My first and second children are 3 months apart. (We adopted our oldest. )
But as far as biological children, #3 and #4 are 14 months apart and #4 and #5 will be 16 months apart. It is really exciting to see the relationship developing now between my just-turned-2yo and her almost-1yo brother. So sweet.

15 months between #4 and #5.
#1 -#2 20 months
#2 -3 - 21 months
#3 - #4 19 months
#4 - #5 15 months
#5 - #6 33 months
We've had three (maybe four miscarriages), but those babies would't have been closer than 15 months.

My closest is 23 months. Because of nursing, my fertility is slow to return. Now, I have a relative that had a DD then 11 months later had twin boys. Her next was four years later.

I always wondered if the, um, desire returns earlier (not desire for another pregnancy or return of fertility if ykwim ) depending on if you nurse or bottlefeed? I've nursed all mine and found that I didn't have ANY desire for a long time and my husband is a patient man. Those first couple of months are full of leaking, engorgement, birth recovery, etc. Then again, I'm a slow healer even after natural homebirths.

I do think it does return at varying times depending on how you're healing and how soon the bleeding stops (I've had it stop as early as 2 weeks) and if you're nursing AND even how much nursing suppresses your cycles. It can even be spotty.. where your desire returns immediately then as nursing goes on and has more time to adjust your system, it can go away somewhat again. Just a lot of variance depending on lots of things I think.

Between #1 & #2: 2 years and 11 months
Between #2 & #3: 2 years and 7 months
Between #3 & #4: 2 years and 1 month
My fertility doesn't return until they are mostly weaned (between 12 and 15 months), and I usually conceive on my first try.

Mamaslearning - I thought of another thing on the babies so very close together. A mom that usually has babies at 36 or 37 weeks could have babies a good month closer together than one that has babies at 41 or 42 weeks.

My closest are just shy of 25 months. I nurse frequently and on demand when they are infants and continue nursing past age 2, but that actually has nothing to do with the spacing.
In my extended family, there are actually sisters who were born 1 day shy of 10 months apart. I think the younger sister was considered "premature," though, but not dramatically so (this was over 30 years ago.) And I went to school with a girl who was just over 9 1/2 months older than her sister -- their mother was an older one, too, surprisingly. I don't know how early the younger sister may have been born. Also, my husband's older brother is 11 months older than he is and his younger brother is 13 months younger.

1st -2nd: long time due to bad 1st relationship;
then married dh and conceived 1st cycle
2nd - 3rd & 4th(twins 12 minutues apart) : 15 months
4th - 5th: 22 months (with a miscarriage in between)
I always return to fertility 8-9 mos after baby is born, even when nursing twins.

I have three:
#1-#2=4.5 months apart (oldest adopted)
#2-#3=14 months apart
So there is 18 months from the oldest to the youngest but there are 3 kids in there.
They get along so well. It was a blessing, though there were times I thought it would kill me.

25 months between #1 and #2
28 months between #2 and #3
27 months between #3 and #4
5 years and 2 months since #4 was born
Never used NFP, nursed all between 2-3 years. My youngest was born when I was 40, and I haven't been able to get pregnant since...

Our first three are 24 months apart.
3 and 4 - 18 months
4 and 5 - 17 months
5 and 6 - 14.5 months
6 and 7 - 15 months
7 and 8 - 18 months
8 and 9 - 15 months
9 and 10 - 18 months
10 and 11 - 20 months (with a 12 week miscarriage btwn them)
11 and 12 - 13.5 months....
Yes, we found out yesterday...we haven't told the children yet, so my local friends, please keep it hush! :)
I wanted to add... I have nursed all of my children anywhere between 2 and 5 years, allowing them to wean at their own pace. My, um, desire, rarely suffers. I have been tandem nursing for 14 years, and many times even triple nursing...right now I am nursing both Greta and Celia, quite often. It's weird, my fertility.
