Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I see that CHC uses Art Pacs in each grade through 8th. Does anyone have experience with these? What are your thoughts? We haven't done so well with getting art in around here. I've tried various things, and my kids like to just draw a lot so I don't worry too much. But I'm wondering if using Art Pacs would be a simple way to ensure that they are getting the basics without too much fuss for me. Next year I will have a 4yo and the baby will turn 1 in Dec. so I'm trying to think of things that aren't too taxing for this old momma!

I use the Art Pacs for the weeks when I can't get in a bigger art lesson.

Pros for us: Definitely quick and easy. Always cute results. No major prep for me.

I have both my dc doing the Art Pac 1 this year, which is intended for 1st grade. I thought it would be easier to have them both doing the same project. My dd loves the projects, but sometimes my ds is a bit bored with them. I should have had him do Art Pac 2 while she did one. It wouldn't have been that much harder to do two separate lessons at the same time, and he could have done more challenging projects.

But that was a minor thing, and my mistake. I am definitely going to do them again next year, as the projects are cute, and overall the kids really like them. If I do the Art pac and a picture study each week, I feel like they are getting some good art time, even if I don't get an Artistic Pursuits
lesson in.

Oh- and to make it even easier for myself, over the summer I looked at all the lessons and gathered all the materials needed and put them into folders for each week. It didn't take long at all to do that, and it was well worth it. Some of the projects called for googly eyes or bits of yarn, and I prepped all that during the summer.

Thanks Melinda! That's exactly what I needed to know.
One more question - do they build in skill? So if my 5th grader has never used an Art Pac is it still okay for him to start with Art Pac 5? (He's really good at drawing already.)

Some other sources of opinion and thoughts from the past. Not sure if they answer your specific question.

Artpacs?
CHC artpacs?
Using Art Pacs...question

Becky-

Here is a site that let's you see sample pages from art pac 5:
samples

I thought the same thing you did- should I start ds in level 1 or 2?
Will he miss out if the lessons build?

I think that probably you could jump right in at the level 5 mark after looking at the samples.

I am always glad to have new conversations for topics we've discussed before. It's helpful to read the old threads and then hear the new thoughts and experiences people have to share.

Yes, that's why I try to link them when I remember them - we always have different "members" involved in discussions at any given time - so it's helpful to have the past conversations as well.
