Hello ladies! I hope this isn't too much trouble, but I don't have the time to look through the archives and I need to know by this tomorrow.
I recently recieved a little money and wish to spend $50 of it on books for my boys. They already like Tolkien and Lewis and have some Windeatt books. I was wondering if there is any books that your boys feel totally inspired by, either living history or fantasy. I know that you all will have o me great ideas  .

Books in that genre my boys have enjoyed include;
Battle Boy books (for your 10yr old)
Biggles
Books of Ember
Mysterious Benedict Society
I have listed other books boys enjoy but not in that genre. I do have a list of fantasy books I'm working on but that is harder due to personal discernment. For living history, one of my boys really enjoys some of the Bethlehem books.

My 9yo ds loves Tin-Tin books!
He is a little younger, but he also likes the Boxcar Children and Bobbsey Twins series. Alex Rider is a favorite of my 13yo nephew.

My oldest son is loving the classic adventure books
Swiss Family Robinson
To Build a Fire (short story by Jack London)
and he's just started The Scarlet Pimpernel
He uses audio books a lot because reading is difficult for him still. And many of the classics are in the public domain and so available on librivox.
Other books I'm looking at for him are White Fang and Call of the Wild, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, The Three Muskateers, Treasure Island, The Jungle Book..

We are seriously into Tintin here right now, thanks to Mater & Magistra's winter issue recommendation. My ds 10 and ds 8 LOVE these stories. We purchased the hardback volumes with three stories each in them. The print is pretty small, but that has not slowed them down!
I appreciate the accuracy of the illustration and also the underlying Catholic perspective.

We love Asterix here, too. Both TinTin and Asterix are read and re-read. And re-read. The play on words in Asterix is priceless.
