Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

if you were 8 months pregnant with 6 other little ones? Lots of varicose veins that wear you out, tired, overburdened, and on and on....
Even if it's to a wedding? Would you refuse to go?
Just want to hear other's thoughts.

more questions..

how would you be traveling?
how long?
how much help would you get there? (like if you're going to a family wedding often you can get help from other family there too)

I have gone to a family wedding 37.5 weeks pregnant with #6. We bowed out of anyone being in the wedding party because I needed to leave open the option to not go. We drove 6 hrs. But I had help when I was there. And we stayed over and drove on Monday instead of trying to rush home. And....

I went into labor Tuesday evening and #6 ds was born early Wednesday morning

All of my first 5 were born past their due dates so having him born at 38 weeks exactly was a real shock, and if I'd had any clue that I'd be that early we wouldn't have gone but I seriously thought we'd be home with 2 weeks still to go at least.

Good chance not. I'd imagine it would be very hard though if a close family member. How far is long?

I missed our family Reunion because I was due with one of the children. It was a huge reunion. I, at times regret not being there, but didn't want to risk any complications.
I didn't feel comfortable travelling 5 hours, with a 1 or 2 in tow.

I myself would stay home unless it were an immediate relative (e.g., a sibling). Then, if I went, I would probably try to go alone or with just one or two older children. My doctor never allowed travel after 36 weeks. I should think it would be very tiring and stressful to go at your stage of pregnancy with 6 kiddos in tow.

Ditto. That family member better be special to be worth all that trouble!

I had high risk pregnancies so I had to stay close to home almost the whole pregnancies, so I can't give share that experience.

The last month of pregnancy is so important to you for nesting and preparation. You need to conserve your energy as much as possible to do the survival of your family and household. Getting behind even further might mean early babymoon will not be a good situation.

It is an in-law sibling.

The trip is 16 hours one-way. And for reasons I can't go into, it would only cause more stress to get the help that was offered.

We'd travel by van.

It's sounding like I'm not being unreasonable by really not wanting to go, anyway.

No. way. Your last post sums up the reasons why very nicely.

I missed my brother's graduation because it was that far away and I was 8 months pregnant with #3. We would have gone by plane and everyone would have helped. Still, everyone felt we shouldn't go. (My labors are very fast.)

I went into false labor that weekend and spent it in the hospital, glad that I was home and not in Phoenix.

We are in a similar situation as you, except it's my brother getting married and I am not pregnant. Even though we are planning on going and I desperately want to...we have consider not making the trip due to cost and stress on the family (getting there and back..and the detox after the trip!).

These long trips aren't trivial with families. So much can happen and so much is out of our control. I would never be considering this undertaking if it wasn't my brother.

You are completely justified to stay home, don't even second guess it!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't go, you are already doing so much just day to day in carrying the precious life within and caring for your Littles and dh. It would be a huge burden and stress to try going. Praying for you in these last dificult days of pregnancy, esp. from one whose just come from that point.

16 hrs? oh no.. I don't think I would do that.. that's a LONG time to have to sit and with your problem with veins already it could cause serious problem.. a shorter long distance you might be able to manage.. but for that long.. it would be really really hard.

That's a really long drive--pregnant or not. I know when I was looking to travel to AR (20 hr drive) when I was 26 weeks pg my OB said I would need to stop and walk EVERY 2 hours. That just couldn't happen on a long trip like that where we usually only stop 2 or 3 times.

Also--don't know what it's like in Canada, but here in the states often times insurance won't offer coverage if you travel out of state.

My dh has 2 siblings getting married this summer (one 20 hr drive and one 26 hr drive away--and about 6 weeks apart from each other) and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it even to those and baby will be at least 3 months by then! I may be sending my dh by himself and I'll be staying home with the 6 little people.

I wouldn't do a long drive like that with varicose veins. That would be my biggest concern for you.

Add to that the late stage of your pregnancy you'd be in, I would be concerned that you would have enough time afterwards to recover sufficiently to be rested (enough, that is) for labor.

Oh, I wouldn't go. And have you run this by your OB? I know mine would have said no without a second thought. Baby first!!!

NO. WAY.

I didn't have varicose veins, and only have five, and I wouldn't have done it with the first one, much less one at this point in my life. Nope. No way. If they don't like it, well, that's just too bad. I'm not responsible for the way that they feel. I am not going to be able to make everyone happy, all the time. But the baby is 'my' job right now (not pregnant, I'm talking as a mom in general, lol), and so there is absolutely no way I'd be wearing myself out for that.

If DH wants to go, great. But if not, that'd be fine with me, too, since it meant I would be able to keep my feet elevated and rest more than I would if he went.

((HUGS))

Rachel

I would definitely not go. That is a really long car trip and it is really common to get DVT's that late in pregnancy. My dr wouldn't allow me to do that. I would talk to your dr and then tell your relative that your dr said no. Since it is an inlaw, is it possible for your husband to go alone with a couple of the kids? Otherwise, just send a little nicer gift since you will save the travel costs. You need to take care of yourself when you are this close to your due date. God bless and good luck!
