Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Between these 2 canners, any opinions?

What kind of grain mill does anyone have? Anyone use a manual one? So many gadgets, so little time! I also just bought a dehydrator. Spring really needs to get here!

Thanks!

for regular use I KNOW I wouldn't manage with a hand crank grain mill.. I got a nutri-mill and it's WONDERFUL. Such very nice flour.

Though I've thought about getting a handcrank one that can do cracked grains as well as flour.. so that just in case we lose power for a longer time I could still make flour.

the advantage of the all-american is that it is gasketless.. and the gaskets do need checking and replacing so the all-american would be a bit better in that regard.

I have a mirro with a weight rather than pressure gauge and I've been quite happy with it.

We have the Country Living Grain Mill. It is a hand crank mill, but it can be motorized. We are very pleased with it. We bought the Power Bar with it which does make grinding easier. Make sure to buy the corn/bean auger with a mill like this if you plan on grinding larger grains. Dh husband has a lot of mechanical knowlegde and he said as far as lasting a good long time the bearings in the Country Living Mill were better than the number of other mills we looked at. HTH

I've got a Nutrimill as well and love it. No opinion on canners, I just use a regular stockpot.

I bought the Family Grain Mill so that I could have a hand crank base and then bought the adapter for the Kitchen Aid mixer.

When I researched it, it was a much superior mill to the one that Kitchen Aid makes. I also have the larger/stronger Kitchen Aid, which I think is not as likely to burn out. I do still watch it, though, and if the motor gets hot to the touch, turn it off to cool a bit before preceding. I also liked that I was able to use the motor from my Kitchen Aid, but should something happen to it, I could still use the mill with the hand crank or should I replace my Kitchen Aid with something else, I could likely also replace the attachment (though, FGM makes a straight attachment to the KA, still bteter than the one made by Kitchen Aid, but it only works with the Kitchen Aid). Also, it isn't "just" a grain mill, and should we some day want a meat grinder, cereal flaker, etc..., there are the add on components.

It is German made, and my memory is that it is generally seen as a good "second" in quality after the Country Living mill for this type of mill, and it is costs a good bit less.
