My very awesome son (who sent me the Art Gallery site info I linked to in this post, also sent me info on a fantastic interactive Solar System app. You can see every object in the solar system up close, there is a gallery of actual NASA images for each object. You can rotate the planets, and several of them can be "opened" to reveal the layers of their cores. There is data for each object. And lots more!

For iPad...costs about $13-$14.

We are using this to enhance our reading of Adventures in the Solar System: Planetron and Me, a story about a boy "kidnapped" by a robot spaceship and his travels about the solar system. The book features detailed descriptions of each planet. There is also a sequel entitled Adventures Beyond the Solar System: Planetron and Me.

Thanks for sharing- my dc would love this. I have been seriously considering saving up for an ipad. There seems to be so many neat apps for it. PLus I'd love to get an issue of Martha Stewart Living on it and see the projects in 3-D!

I didn't know about the Martha Stewart app! Wow, that sounds neat, too!!!    So many amazing apps, so little time,,,,sigh!    (me...being a pig for    iPad apps! )
