I'm new to this whole ipad/iphone world of apps.

Are the fees monthly or a one time fee?

I was going to splurge on the keynote and pages app for ipad for $9.99 each. And then for terms and agreement I saw the word subscription and freaked    out a bit. And closed it immediately.

So is it a monthly thing????

No, no, it's a one-time fee. There will be occasional updates available, but those are free with the initial cost of the app.
