I am trying to pull together helpful Catholic parenting resources. Would anyone who has favorite Catholic child rearing resources share a link to books or websites? I am interested in non- Catholic Christian sites as well, but there seems to be few practical Catholic resources so I am trying to search them out, sift through and come up with a helpful list for my blog sidebar and maybe for the 'Getting Started' talk at our conference... if they ask me again.
Thank you for any help you can give!
Edited to add: There has been a lot of great stuff on living the liturgical year, sacrament prep, teaching the saints, etc. but less on manners, discipline, strengthening families, gaining your child's heart.... practical hands-on 'try this' type of information. That's what i am trying to find.

Matthew Kelly's Building Better Families is one I recently enjoyed. He grew up with 7 seven brothers in a Catholic family and is a Catholic speaker/writer
ETA: One thing he mentioned that has really stayed with me: to build a better family you often have to make choices and do things that are "counter-cultural", and that can be a very lonely place to be.
Isn't that the truth! I'm sure we have all experienced this in one way or another.

What about the series of books by Mary Ann Budnik:
http://www.rbmediainc.com/FamilyAndMarriage.htm
Wish I could tell you a little about them, but I had barely scanned them before giving the copies we had to dd when she married. I'll try to ask her whether she would recommend them.

I know about James Stenson and Dr. Ray, good resources!
Does anyone know about Mary Ann Budnik? Her books look excellent! I am putting them on my wish list ASAP! ( I don't want to recommend anything I haven't personally seen.) Does anyone know if she has children herself? I can't find a personal bio on her.

Mary Ann Budnik is very good and I would second (or third or fourth) the recommendation for her books. She has spoken at our conference before. And I see you found the bio.

Karen Santorum's Everyday Graces for virtues and manners.
I have not yet read it but from what I have heard I think Lisa Hendey's book would fit:
The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body and Soul

OK these are not parenting books per say.. but I also find them helpful in that they help you feel less "alone" not to mention that humor is so very helpful. Just to be able to laugh can help so much when you feel overwhelmed.
Susie Lloyd's Please Don't Drink the Holy Water and Bless Me Father for I have Kids
Another one that is more entertaining than how to but still has insteresting insights is Mary Ann Kuharski's Outnumbered! Raising 13 kids with humor and prayer
She has also written 3 other books that I haven't read
Raising Catholic Children
Building a Legacy of Love
Parenting with Prayer

Humor is a great help to parents! I forgot about Kuharski, she is fabulous!
Every Day Graces definitely fits what I'm looking for I even have that one on my shelf! Thanks for the tip on Lisa Hendey's book.

Bridget, thank you for sharing Mary Ann Budnik's bio... otherwise would never have noticed that she has done this booklet: Examinations of Conscience For Specific Ages & Temperaments...looks very good for the entire family.

That does look helpful! It never occurred to me how different temperaments would affect an examination, but of course it would! Learning about the temperaments has been so helpful to me in raising my children!

The Catholic Family Handbook by Father Lovasik
How To Raise Good Children by Mary Reed Newland
....and adding that I strongly recommend the Budnik and Dr. Ray books! These are my go-to books!

This is excellent! It's a wonderful resource and examen! I went through it together with my oldest dd earlier this year and it prompted some wonderful and rich discussions. The first half of this small booklet is intended for younger children (7 - 10), while the latter examens are geared more for teens (11 - 16). There is also an examen for parents in there that I found helpful. Be aware that since this is an examen for a range of ages (from 7 - adult), you probably wouldn't want to just hand this over to a younger child. Just wanted to mention that. It is truly a fantastic examen, esp. for teens!
