Hi all,
I am due in 5 weeks and will be having a scheduled c-section. This is due to previous twin c-section, 1 VBAC, and then another c-section due to a partial aburption, all within 5 years. (plus I have numerous other children) Also, conceiving current baby 5 months postpartum from last baby, so not a lot of healing time. So, I am considered high risk and at high risk for hemorrage during the c-section as a result, or my placenta staying attached to the scar tissue from previous sections. They even mentioned two weeks ago to prepare myself mentally for the possibility of a hysterectomy if I start to hemorrage. Obviously, the choice may be made for me, but does anyone have any experience with this type of circumstance? I have been saying prayers to St. Joseph for his interecession, and trying to be at peace about it all. (Baby's name will be Joseph and a lot of circumstances seemed to be pointing to this name and prayers to St. Joseph.) Anyway, is a hysterectomy awful? I did a search and found an older post or two on the subject...everyone seemed pretty sad about it, and I wondered if anyone has had any experiences with hemorrage during a c-section and how bad it got so to speak.
Also, does anyone have any information on conceiving more children when you are "high risk" if they do NOT remove my uterus. They seem to be hinting strongly that I should not have anymore children, but I wonder if this is true as I have heard of people having 11 or more c-sections!!! So, I guess it all depends on the circumstances, but just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with any of this. Thankfully, they have not mentioned any danger to baby that I am aware of, unless I hav a complete abuption prior to the c-section I assume. Also, are there any major complications after a hysterctomy when they leave your ovaries in?
Thanks for any thoughts you all may have and prayers would be appreciated since I am obviously nervous about it all.

(((((((((hugs & prayers))))))))) No advice, but I am following this thread since I will be going on 4 C/S this June, and am having a lot of anxiety over how many more will be possible....

I've had 3 c-sections and ruptured with the second- while trying VBAC on pitocin. I was knocked out when the doc did the c-section so all of my info is second hand.
My dh was in the room- not scrubbed up even but here's his story- they got the baby out and the doc turned her attentions to me, there was a lot of blood and she was visibly shaken and called for back-up. That's when she noticed dh and booted him out. There was a ruptured vein (artery???) and she couldn't find it to repair. She was preparing to do a hysterectomy- waiting for the other doc- but miraculously, right before her back up got there for the surgery, she found the bleed and was able to repair it.
I lost a ton of blood and had to have 2 bags after I got to my room. At my follow up appointment, she explained what had happened but said I shouldn't have any problem with future pregnancies. I did have a late miscarriage 3 years later but I don't think it had anything to do with the rupture... and now, 10 years later, I have a baby turning one!!! 
Her birth was a scheduled c-section and my ob (a different one- the previous doc doesn't do ob anymore) told me that my uterus looks fine, minimal scarring and that I'm clear to have another if I'd like.
My doc this time did mention that there is always a risk of hysterectomy with c-section but it's rare... even with the trauma and blood loss during the previous birth, they were able to avoid it.
This past pregnancy I was defined as high risk for many factors- AMA, previous late miscarriage, previous rupture and previous preterm labor. I saw a specialist throughout the pregnancy and was watched very carefully. Even with my high risk status, I was cleared to do it again.
I would trust my ob to determine the risk of future pregnancies and to let me know what I was getting into should I decide to ignore those warnings. She said that the risk greatly depends on the woman and how her uterus "holds up" from previous pregnancies and how much scar tissue is there from other c-sections. I have also heard of women having 10+ c-sections but my doc said the most she's done is 4- malpractice cost in our state has gone through the roof so I'm not sure if that's a determining factor in # of c-sections a doctor will perform.

Thanks Jen and Vanessa. Sounds scary, but you are alive, so that is a plus!  Hoping it all goes well and I don't have to have one. Just assume that might create a domino effect that leads to complications etc. with more surgery in the future. You can see my scar tissue on the ultrasounds and he said they are watching to make sure this new placenta does not attach itself to the old scar tissue. Apparantly, it is prone to do that. The doesn't think it will, but they won't know for sure until they are in there I guess. So, I don't know why I have scarring, but I do tend to scar very easily on the outside of my body...raised and puffy scars, so maybe I am just prone to that. All new to me. I also have a dull ache in that particular area all the time lately. I mentioned it to the doc yesterday and they said to keep them informed of it if it gets worse. It is right under my stomach area and where I felt the giant ripping sensation when I had my parital aburption one morning. So, prayers please that I hold it together, literally, until after the c-section etc.
