Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I posted before about my happy surprise, that baby #6 was on the way.
I have had panic attacks and a high level of anxiety ever since I found out. It is overwhelming, and affecting my ability to function.
I had some light spotting on Sunday, and *really* freaked out. My dh took me to the local ER, and they determined it was probably from irritation of an intimate nature.
My hcg count was 13,000, and with an internal u/s, they saw a tiny little 6w6d baby with a heartbeat of 131. Yay!
The problem is, although I know this is extremely good news, I continue to suffer from the high anxiety and panic attacks. It is just overwhelming. It won't go away, and I spend most of each day wondering when a miscarriage will begin, and mentally preparing myself for it.
A very good friend took me *back* to the ER, to try to get someone to prescribe *something* that would help. I already take some meds, that are safe, but aren't working. Well, after 5 hours, they increased my dosages, but no new/better meds are allowed at this stage of pregnancy. <<Sigh>>
I am aware there are risks with the meds, but there are also risks with how I am feeling!

Please pray for some specific things:

1. A healthy baby
2. That these new dosages work, and relieve my anxiety
3. That I am able to trust in God and find peace
4. That I am able to stay calm, and take care of my children
5. If a miscarriage does occur, that I am able to handle it without losing my mind

Thank you to all of you!!
I know that your prayers work, you have helped me time and again.
I just want to be delivered from this anxiety. It has been my unwelcome companion for way too many years.

I am so very sorry that you are suffer from anxiety; it can be life debilitating, I'm sure. Someone very dear to me was suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for many years - I know how difficult it can be, and how these stresses can actually complicate the delicacies of your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. You cannot just say "everything is fine" and feel peace. ...it is so much more complicated than that. But the good news is, that you can overcome this; you will overcome this!

Praying that you get relief, peace, and comfort. And of course, praying for that sweet little baby of yours

Dear Dear Leocea, I am praying for you and offering up whatever I can for you!! I had terrible debilitating anxiety with my last pregnancy and I know just how terrible it can be. I don't even know you but wish I could be there to lend a hand and a shoulder in person!!

Please pm me if you like.

I know there are a lot of meds that you can not take in the first trimester. But you can try seeing a therapist to just vent, cry, talk. This helped me tremendously while I was pregnant. And just take one moment at a time.

And I know how scary miscarriage can be so try to just cherish every moment you have with this precious life starting right now.

God Bless and many prayers
Jamie

You could try taking a high B Vitamin Complex. I take one recommended by my midwife called Nutri Calm. I take these and find they help tremendously.

The B vitamins and herbs that are included are safe for pregnancy and bfeeding.

Also, as someone who has lost 3 children in miscarriage, while it is a devastating loss, I know that my losses were also an act of love--the suffering that the Lord allowed my husband, myself, and my family to go through was in and of itself an act of love. Through those experiences, we learned how to suffer, and for that, I am grateful.

That particular cross may or may not come to pass for you. Do not dwell on what may or may not happen.

If it is a cross for you, do know that God and Our Lady will walk with you through it...

And so will many of us here on the 4real forum.

My hugs for you.

Leocea,

I am sorry to hear you are so burdened by anxiety. While not as severe as what you are describing, I occassionaly suffer from panic attacks/anxiety too. A few things I noticed over the course of years. Obviously ignoring any medical reasons.

1. Do you drink any caffeine? Even tea? I used to notice an increased level of anxiety after drinking tea and sometimes, but less frequently, coffee. Esp. if I added sugar.

2. After eating choc. chip cookies. Odd, I know. But, I soon stopped eating homemade choc. chip cookies since I honestly noticed that EACH time I ate them, anxiety followed. Too much white flour/sugar?

3. I usually suffer slight anxiety every day before or during dinner. This has gone on since I was a little kid. I feel overwhelmed with fear about things that aren't even a part of my life yet...such as kids driving or other "out of control" feeling things. Chalked it up to a blood sugar issue since it is consistantly around the dinner hour. (Either that or my Mom dropped me on my head at mealtime or something when I was little! )

4. And finally...thyroid? Racing thoughts and anxiety could be a symptom of a hyper thyroid or thyroid related disorders such as Graves Disease.

5. A final word: My husband gave me some "no brainer" advice..but I tell ya, it has saved me many times since it IS so simple and logical. He told me.."What you are feeling is just that...feelings. They are not real, therefore you don't have to struggle or be anxious for a solution to all of these overwhelming worries and anxieties. It's not going to happen just because it pops in your head. Your baby is not going to have something happen to it just because you are worrying about that. See what I mean? Just tell yourself...this is just a feeling. It is not REAL. That really helped me not feel so out of control or scared when I would encounter this problem. And, he also told me not to think about any big things or get worried after 10 at night. I would finally lie down to go to sleep, only to be filled with adreneline from worrying about this kid, or that kid, or the house catching on fire in the winter etc. I think in my case..I felt overwhelmed with all the responsibilites in life and also was a control freak who felt...out of control. Learning to let go, and realizing that the whole world would keep spinning even if I didn't exist, helped me too.

6. I can't remember the verse number..but find and dwell on the Bible verse that says.."Before I was born, you knew me...you knit me in my mother's womb..' You know the one. GOD is in charge of this creation. HE is forming each tiny blood cell, each little fingerprint..each fiber of your baby's being. It is done in secret..apart from our prying eyes...our control. I know that God used my anxiety to help me call out to Him for help. I had to realize that HE was the driver, not me. Your baby is His AND yours. He cares for them more than we even do. Pray for peace, for trust and then actually TRY to be at peace and trust.

So, I know I am just supposed to say.."Praying", so sorry for all the advice, but I have been there, done that.

Also, have you tried writing down triggers, times of day, diet etc? Try to see if there is a pattern to when you think/worry about things. Do you tend to feel scattered with the children in the morning? I used to feel like that when the kids were little and I would sleep as long as they did. They were UP when they first got up and I was still half asleep. Their noise and demands for breakfast made me feel overwhelmed. What are your overwhelmed times of day? You mentioned prayers to be able to care for the children due to the anxiety. Write things down.. Try to disconnect your fears and emotions from the reality of the situation. See yourself from above so to speak or outside or yourself for a minute. (i.e get out of your own head problem for a minute.) This helps me too sometimes when I feel a certain problem is intractable. I write down what the problem is as specifically as possible, and then I brainstorm solutions. You will be surprised at what you find and you may notice patterns. (i.e. I always feel anxiety trying to get the kids ready to go to the store...I always feel anxiety if I stay up too late...I always feel anxiety after I eat strawberries.." or whatever. You get the picture. Don't be afraid to talk about it either though to a real person. It can help us see ourselves outside of our usual broken patterns of thinking.

I will be praying for you Leocea! Did anyone tell you of the way to reduce your physical symptoms naturally? I understand that your situation may require meds at this point, but sometimes professionals seem to fail to mention things other than medication and I just wanted to check that this wasn't the case and you were aware of the role that being aware of your breathing plays.

I suffered badly from anxiety attacks about 11 years ago, but before my eldest was born got help. I used to have pains in my arms and chest(thought I was going to have a heart attack), want to faint. It was horrible. Since I have become aware of how I breath when anxious and then make sure I start breathing properly again. I have never had these symptoms to this level of severity again, even in situations where I have been quite anxious. Once I recognise a panic attack building I am now able to reduce it and prevent it from being debilitating.

You will still be left with what triggered your anxiety but being aware of your breathing and then breathing properly helps LOTS.
I find I'm not as reactive these days. I think it is because I have taught myself gradually to physically destress, which also involves being aware of your whole bodies reaction to anxiety. Learning to recognise tension and then release it. You really get to seeing how the body is affected greatly by things you never even thought of and how one area can lead on to other parts being affected and create a very unwell whole.

I'm not sure that I will ever be free from anxiety, it seems to be my lifes work, but I'm so glad I have the knowledge to control at least the physical side. The mental side...I'm getting there slowly too with God as my strength.

I'm pregnant too at the moment, and very tired. If anything doesn't make sense here please ask. Hope it might be of some help too.

God bless.

Getting enough sleep cannot be over emphasised if you suffer from anxiety. Mental well being and a good nights sleep go hand in hand. Especially at this point in your pregnancy you will be very tired.

While I can't say that I like it I have been going to bed early every night. I know that its only for a time. Its what I need to do now so I make it a big priority. I'm also having a nap in the day. Sometimes I get bored with sleeping so much, but it is very necessary for me at the moment.

Praying and praying! My recent pregnancy/birth was riddled with panic and anxiety. Still have panic issues, but severity has dropped and the number of attacks are down.
