Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies can I request some prayers please .
I am feeling a conflict in my heart regarding computer .
We've been without since oct or nov and using the library computer . We've had breaks like this before but always get computer replaced after seceral months .
This time I was really feeling we would not let another computer enter our home .
I find the boys fight less, we do way more as a family , life at home is just generally more peaceful.
I was now thinking I'd give up the library for lent .
Well last night my dh pulls out a brand new lap top ! This is my b-day present . He said he debated doing so and he waited til the boys were in bed before bringing it out to show me .
He said he was going to get me a manual watch that I wanted but couldn't find one in the time frame he had . I did expect he was getting me a watch . when he pulled out the computer my heart sunk. I felt scared even . I don't want to be mean or selfish regarding his gift but am now struggling if to keep it or not .
we do have time limits on kids use of computer but even so I just do not like the mind set it instills in our ds15 . He is very changed when he uses it and plays any type of game etc.
I know dh struggled getting this for me because he also knows how I love using it for my writing , my community , my photos and my fb .
I also had really felt called to greater devotion and prayer life . A great need for internal reflection and time in His presence .
prayers regarding discernment would be great
Thanks so much
Lov Rox

Oh, Rox, I can absolutely identify with this struggle. You have my prayers as you turn to God for wisdom and strength.

A very tough situation. Praying for clear discernment for you and your family.

Prayers as you discern, Rox!

Perhaps this would be something you could bring to your spiritual director?

Praying for discernment. Nice thing about the laptop--it can be stored away from the children, if their time on it is a primary concern.

Roxie, I will pray for you as you discern what will be best for both you and your family. I do agree with Booksnbabes - a laptop is yours and is easy to physically control, much more so than a desktop. If you choose to put it away for Lent, that's easy to do. I understand your concerns, though, and commend you for putting God's will for your family first.

I'm reading this and it seems to me the solution is clear. This is YOUR lap top, a present from YOUR husband for YOU! So you can keep it and use it for the things YOU want to use it for. It is not a toy and it is not for the children. It is a grown up present for YOU!

So keep it. And have your husband tell the boys that this is your present and they need to keep their hands off of it or else.

Then enjoy this nice gift from your husband.

And then put a password on it When I got my iphone my dc were on it all the time. Taking pics of the wall (20 pics of the wall, that's 4 year olds for you)playing games that my dh had put on it. I deleted all the games from it and put a password on it. They now understand, this is mum's alone.

And as mentioned the great thing about laptops is you can put them away. You could put it away after you use it so this will help others from thinking they can use it. It can also help if you are like me and want to limit your own time on it. They are very useful, I have gotten to the point where I realise that. But I don't want it taking up more time than I'd like so I've put some rules in place for me. My computer time is only open if I get other priorities done. If there is no time left well there's tommorrow.
Make these goals that you have take priority over your computer time, put your computer in it's place and it will be a wonderful tool.

Praying for you!

I agree with the other ladies - your computer, end of discussion

Then set firm limits for yourself. You can do it, and we'll be praying you through it

Thanks Gals ! that evening I felt calm come over me I truly believe it was a result of much prayer . putting things in line not being overwhelmed etc. the kids have been great and dh is fixing up the old computer for them which has time limits set etc.
I think part of my heavy heart was the fact in we really thought we'd be setting up our new home this new yr. and it just isn't happening .
I love my online community too it really keeps me goping in these winter months .
Thanks so much for all Your prayer
Rox

Rox, I'm praying but, when I saw your prayer request, I thought it might help you to read the Reflections of Our Holy Father regarding Facebook and be prayerfully intent upon the invitation Our Holy Father gives us:

"I would like then to invite Christians, confidently and with an informed and responsible creativity, to join the network of relationships which the digital era has made possible. This is not simply to satisfy the desire to be present, but because this network is an integral part of human life. The web is contributing to the development of new and more complex intellectual and spiritual horizons, new forms of shared awareness. In this field too we are called to proclaim our faith that Christ is God, the Saviour of humanity and of history, the one in whom all things find their fulfilment (cf. Eph 1:10). The proclamation of the Gospel requires a communication which is at once respectful and sensitive, which stimulates the heart and moves the conscience; one which reflects the example of the risen Jesus when he joined the disciples on the way to Emmaus (cf. Lk 24:13-35). By his approach to them, his dialogue with them, his way of gently drawing forth what was in their heart, they were led gradually to an understanding of the mystery."

Thank You Cay ! I prayed and I know my spiritual struggle is often I feel caught in the middle too. I feel pulled by my catholic & pagan friends online . I feel all the quarrels etc. and it is good for me to have a break but then I was reminded of my work as missionary / intercessor and God gave me the reading by Mother Teresa for that very day. Like her this is where Our Lord has placed me .In the middle .How many people did Mother Teresa mediate for between muslim & hindu , Chroistian and sihks etc. there are people who believe she is not a saint nor a true catholic just because of that ! shall I deny my Father just to people please people because I do not appear catholic enough or secular enough etc.
So I hope to continue to be a light for Him online the best little light I can be
Thanks Cay & All You are little lights in my life
