I listened to part of a program on local radio recently about using natural remedies for treating illness. The guest, whose name I did not get as I only caught the middle of the show, was talking about oil of wild oregano. Our family tends to go the traditional route when it comes to medicine, although I don't have any criticism of those who use alternatives and know they work well for many. This person was SO convincing about the wild oregano and how it basically cures everything from sinus infections to colds to flu, skin infections and on and on. A Google search turned up limited information--lots from herb companies, people selling books about alternative tx, etc. but not much anecdotally from individuals or independent .org sites, which is what I was hoping to run across.
Anyone have experience with it? I was totally game and got a bottle from Whole Foods. I even got the brand that supposedly is THE one to get. Had my first cold (my driving force for all this is my constant colds that aggravate my asthma)-- and nothing. I've always been a little skeptical about herbal tx as medicine, like it's a little too good to be true (although like I said, I know many use it successfully) and I was so convinced in this product, but now I'm feeling taken. I know there are many here that use vitamins and herbs extensively, I'd love to here any positives, negatives or resources you have about this oil of wild oregano.
Thanks!
Sarah

I've only heard a little.. that getting true oil of oregano is difficult (there's something that's labeled oil of oregano but it's a different species of oregano or something like that.. that doesn't work near as well) but what I've heard it's best for is helping with yeast overgrowth.. which would effect all those things you mentioned IF that's the reason you have those other thing to begin with.

I have just started using it. It was a good quality one from the health food store. Oreganol P73 works very well in killing germs. I would take a few DROPS (be careful not to overdo) under the tongue or mixed with coconut oil(the good kind)
We scared away a sinus infection/sore throat pretty fast with this. I put it in a celtic sea salt/applecider vinegar(raw) and water gargle...I would gargle with it for as long as I could and I would swallow it (it wasn't too strong) and it was gone before anyone elses...so I am sold.
I also have a friend whose husband and child was bit by a dog. The dh didn't want to use the oil. The child's bite healed very quickly with no scarring. His got infected. He put on the oil, it cleared up very quickly and he is now a believer by practical example....lol

Just a caution for those reading. Oregano oil is not recommended while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Not sure why no for brestfeeding, but during pregnancy it supposedly can cause contractions. If you are pregnant always research the safety of herbal oils before taking them as some are not recommended during pregnancy.
