Hi Ladies,

I am 6 weeks postpartum and still holding on to lots of fluid, especially in my legs. I'm on a blood pressure med. because the swelling is affecting my blood pressure (also I was hypertensive the last several weeks of my pregnancy). Are there any natural remedies out there that will help me lose this water retention? My doctor has given me a diuretic - but I was just wondering if there was something natural I could do instead.

well lemon is a natural diuretic.. you can add lemon to water easily enough..

My concern would be going too overboard if you're breastfeeding because it could impact milk supply. And a prescription might be better as far as knowing exactly how much to take.

I use dandelion root for postpartum water retention while nursing. Capsules worked for me (I took two or three and they worked overnight).

But I'm not a Dr. this is just my experience.

Thank you Jodie and Michele.
I should tell you that my daughter had Trisomy13 so she passed not long after birth. So breastfeeding is not an issue.

oh no Suzanne, I'm so sorry. I had a good friend lose a baby right after birth a few months ago.. so very sad..

nettle and parsley are other herbal diuretics (nettle tastes decent as a tea!) oh.. and alfalfa too.

I don't have any remedies to offer so defer to the good advice given in that regard. I hope something helps your edema. It must be very hard to be struggling with that along with the grief you are facing with the loss of Gianna. Our prayers continue to be with you, Suzanne.
