Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 8 & 10 year old will be finised with Level E RightStart Math in a few weeks.

I am at a bit of a loss with what to do with them now. We have been very happy with RS so I never really looked at other programs, so I am not even sure what it out there. I thought that we would have taken longer to complete RS and there wouldn't have been such a big gap before HighSchool Math.

So what have people done for 5th, 6th, 7th grade math before starting Pre-algebra or algebra?

Betsy,
have you considered using the "geometric approach for middle school math" from RightStart? My son (11)likes it.

We've also done the "Geometric Approach" for two years in combination with a few "Key to" booklets. Now my son is in grade 7 and is doing NEM from (Singapore Math).

My daughter has switched to Singapore Math 5A and 5B in combination with "Key to" booklets after finishing the RighStart Math level E. I might do the "Geometric Approach" with her as well, just once a week maybe and spread it out over several years.

I have considered doing the Geometric Approach next year. However, I didn't know if I wanted to do that alone or with something. Also, even if I did this for the whole year I would still need to fill in Math for 5-7th grade for my 8yo and 6-7th for my 10yo. I am just starting to looking into options and try to get a plan as to what Middle School Math will look like.

Betsy,
if I were in your shoes, I would spread the 165 lessons of the Geometric approach over 2 years or 3 and fill in with something else like www.challengemath.com or Eva's suggestions. The Geo Approach can get a bit intense and also doesn't review much of their previous work from level E. Toward the middle to end of the Geometric Approach they could move on to video text algebra and do them alternating days.
Good luck,
Aagot

I think that this is a good plan. Now, I just need to find what to do in conjunction. I am interested in Teaching Textbooks year 5, because they can work alone which will free up time to start my new 1st grader in Level B!
