...mini-cyber retreat!
This thread following the Fall Retreat for Moderators, got us thinking. Several members wondered how this worked, what a cyber-retreat was like. It seemed that maybe hosting one here for any interested members would be a good way to have a similar experience. The retreat format - working more in live time and reading/posting for a set period of time - is a different experience but very rewarding.
So we are offering a mini-retreat for all members to get to know each other a little better, to lighten burdens, to reflect on the Advent season, to take a break and have fun. We are going to set the date for this Friday, December 17 and set a time for a thread(s) to be open from 3 PM - 10 PM (EST). The thread(s) will operate as a more intimate area, a get-to-know-you space. The thread(s) will be in the Tea & Conversation forum. If there is enough interest and it is successful, periodic cyber-retreats could be a regular event.
So if you would like to participate, join in the 4 Real Advent Cyber-Retreat thread(s) during the retreat hours on Friday. Our spiritual focus will be on the O Antiphons which start that day. Stop in anytime you can during the those hours (even if it's just for a few minutes - no time commitments necessary to participate), for a little Advent reflection, sharing, fun, food, and chat.
Put on some fuzzy slippers, let your hair down, and have a warm drink with us!

I am not sure I understand how this works.
Is it in the form of a Chat session? like skype?

Not really. We set up a special retreat thread or threads and if you want to join in the conversation (which is often light-hearted, sometimes including photos of food we wish we were sharing together, fun hats or something like that), you can post there. It doesn't go in real time like a chat would - you can leave and come back and read the posts without missing what happened.
It's easier to do it than explain it, if that makes any sense at all. (I know, clear as mud!)
There will be plenty of moderators around to get things started, but we hope this will be a time for everyone to relax and have fun while pondering some timeless Advent antiphons.

What Nancy said! The thread(s) will be titled RETREAT: ----. It hasn't been decided if it will be all in one thread or a few threads for "food" "fun" "faith" . Still working on that.

We just baked a batch of gingerbread cookies.
I will be checking in during the first part of the retreat. It will be 9pm here. What time will it be in Australia?

It was hard figuring a time since we were keeping it short (6-7 hours) this time. We did factor in international times. It will be the next morning in Australia. I think we thought it would be 8 PM in England and Wales - maybe didn't consider an hour shift for Daylight savings time. We figured it would give a few early night hours to Europe but maybe we should start an hour earlier. Do pop in and if we are ready we might start earlier.

Germany is an hour ahead of England/Wales. We are further east. 9pm is actually better than 8pm for me. We will just give it a try!

Good, hope we do see you. If this is something that works out to be a repeat event we can re-evaluate times to do it.
I should have figured the time thing, as my son was just in Austria and it was an hour off from England.
