Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm reading Advent and Christmas Wisdom from G. K. Chesterton and Orthodoxy by Chesterton.

This is the first year that I've planned ahead to read something specific for Advent. It is part of a year long plan I put together to read classics of the faith. In fact, "faith" is the theme for this month's reading and I thought Chesterton to be a perfect fit...a right jolly old elf .

Love,

I'm reading Donkey Bells: Christmas and Advent by Catherine Doherty for Advent.

It's very good.

Orthodoxy! Yeah! I remember reading that with two friends fondly!

I am reading the book of wisdom (to tag with my bible study read of the gospel of John)

You mean, besides my son's term paper drafts?

I normally use the Advent devotionals our parish gives out each year, but the Chesterton books look so very tempting, Angie!

Well I'll be brave and admit.. my hands and eyes are busy with crafting so I'm not reading anything to myself that needs thought.. I do have a book or two laying around to read in bed before I fall asleep.. but those are, and need to be, just fluff.. it's a wind down time not a think more time.

I'm with Jodie...it's light stuff for me this year. I gathered up all of my OLD December Victoria magazines in a basket and that may be it for my Advent reading. (Thanks to a dear friend who gifted me her entire collection of old Victoria magazines, I now have a delightful collection!)

I do have sitting on my bedside table right now a copy of Caryll Houselander's The Reed of God. I'd like to start it this Advent.

Err.... I'm *still* working on Mere Christianity and The Great Heresies, but burning out. I think I'll switch to Orthodoxy, since it's been sitting waiting on the iPod. I've begun it so many times! Maybe this time it'll stick.   Also, In Conversation with God.

thanks for the prompt, Angie! (and the honesty, Stef!) I've had "Orthodoxy" on my Kindle for an embarrassingly long time now. I now have an Advent book!

thanks again. you ladies are such an inspiration.

I am not reading but listening to some Catholic Lighthouse Media cds by
Matthew Kelly. Karen T lent these to me, and they are so good.

Right now I am listening again to his A Call to Joy talk. It is so good-
my favorite thought to ponder is his comment that things are made to be used and people are made to be loved.

I summarized a few. I just ordered Come Lord Jesus by Mother Mary Francis.

But I'm also reading A Child in Winter by Caryll Houselander

and O Come Emmanuel

and before anything else is the Advent/Christmas volume of In Conversation with God by Francis Fernandez. Those are the best!
