Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Found this in the Wall Street Journal, and thought it gave great food for thought...think of St. Brendan for US rather than St. Patrick? Suits more for the American-Irish.

Of Sainted Memory: This St. Patrick's Day why not drink to St. Brendan?
BY JOHN J. MILLER
Friday, March 11, 2005.

I didn't post the whole article due to possible copyright issues.

Also, our diocesan paper had an article by Thomas Craughwell on how March 17 is also the feast of St. Joseph of Arimithea, patron saint of funeral directors. The article isn't online yet, but I'll post the link when/if it does. Quite appropriate since March 17th falls so close to Holy Week.

Here's the link to the article I mentioned:

A Patron Saint for Funeral Directors: St. Joseph of Arimathea (1st century), Feast day: March 17, By Thomas Craughwell.

This is a good saint to focus on as we're headed to Holy Week. Here's Patron Saints Index write up about him.

I've enjoyed all of this author's columns...I can see I need to now buy his works Saints for Every Occasion (Stampley Enterprises, 2001) and Patron Saints Catholic Cardlinks (Our Sunday Visitor, 2004).
