My sweet Pete, my little lad who has been through thirteen surgeries....and faces more....is starting today the whole palate expansion on both his upper and lower palates. They are putting in the separators today, which are pretty uncomfortable. Palate expansion in itself is not that big of deal compared to everything else he has gone through, but the orthodontist said to “expect” Peter’s cleft palate (that has already been repaired twice) to “open back up”.  That is where this all gets rather complicated. Pete, due to the syndrome both he and Lily have, has a very small airway. If they repair the cleft and possibly the hyper-nasality that he has big time....they might need to do another.....jaw distraction. Yes, the same thing Lily just had.
So, for right now, I am breathing....and praying....and focused on today.....at least, I am trying to do that. We all need some prayers at this point to just stay in today, especially Pete. He went to bed crying....he is so anxious, and frankly, I don’t blame him.
Thanks!! I really appreciate all of the prayers you have all so generously showered my family with over the last several years. It is a blessing to have you along this medically intense journey we are on in this life. 
UPDATE: Pete did really well with the separators being put in, but by the end of the night, he was crying in pain.....poor guy. It doesn’t help that a few of mine feel like they are getting sore throats, including Pete. Lots of Tylenol in the days to come (he is allergic to Motrin) I suspect since he literally has two rows of teeth in the upper and lower front areas, ( LOTS of crowding), he will feel any movement of teeth even more so. Now that a family we know well from back home has their daughter in ICU, fighting for her life.....I have reminded Pete that we have a lot to offer up for dear Regina. Her situation has given us a little perspective on our situation.....

UPDATE 12/1/10--Pete had his expanders put in today....not fun. He is really, really struggling with eating and talking. I feel so bad for him. I worry that swallowing is already a little compromised for him due to his airway being so small....and now he has two expanders crowding his tiny mouth even more. I know this will get better soon, but it is hard to see him struggling, he has fought back tears several times today.....poor guy.
If you could say a little prayer that he can eat safely, (no choking, no slow down in calories, he is very tiny already), and that his pain is kept to a minimum...and especially that he has a successful expansion without ANY opening of his cleft palate.
