Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been told my folate levels are slightly too high and I'm 4 weeks pregnant. I've never had this before has anyone else? I was told to stop taking my supp until my next app, but of course the supp has more than just folate in it. And I bought all these wonderful powders too (Barley green, wheat grass, psyllium)to use for better than ever early pregnancy, or so I thought, and now I'm thinking perhaps I shouldn't take any of them. It does seem that natural foods high in folate are ok, just not synthetic. Anyone had any experience?

I don't have any experience with folate because I've always declined prenatal supplements, but Dr. Fuhrman warns all women about folate supplements. You can read about the reasons behind it here.

I don't have personal experience with this issue, but I will certainly be praying for you and baby as you sort this out.

Thanks Eva! Youv'e really given me something to think about now. I had already been thinking about moving from synthetic vitamins to natural, or to a better diet that includes all I need, but I never stopped for a minute to think about getting my folate from natural sources only. I guess it was too ingrained in me that I had to take a synthetic supp, period. I've never bothered with folate supps after 12 weeks, so perhaps I can talk to my Dr about monitoring my folate levels and just trying to have good levels naturally.

One thing that I did find online is a study that says high folate levels may lead to a baby with asthma, since I have one asthmatic son this is a concern for me now. The same study said there was concern too that folate was been included in so many food products that if women then took a supp they could end up too high in folate.

Nancy, thankyou for your prayers

You're welcome, Sharyn. When I was pregnant with my first child, I saw my gynecologist in Germany and asked him about folate supplements. He told me that in his opinion they were completely unnecessary and just a way for the pharmaceutical companies to make money. That was 13 years ago.

I hope that your folate levels will normalize.
