How do you like the Moby wrap? I was looking at getting one before Charlie is born. He will be coming home after a stay in the NICU and I have heard these are good for those babies. I'm open to other suggestions. I'm anticipating some problems getting nursing established since he will be away from me for at least a week and they will be starting feeds slowly.

I love my Moby wrap!! But I have never used it with a tiny baby, my last two (the ones I used my Moby with) were both over 9 lbs at birth, and I couldn't use the Moby for a few weeks due to C-section, but I found it very comfortable to use up to about 25 lbs.
I did recently buy a Baby K'tan, it is supposed to be very similar to the Moby, but easier to put on. I haven't used it yet though since youngest is 20 month and doesn't like being in carriers (But it was on sale and I intend to use it for the next baby.....)

I love my MOBY - I have it on right now with my little 6 pounder. I also have a K'tan - I really don't find it much easier than the MOBY - not as much tying, but just as much adjusting.

I have a sleepy wrap which I believe is similar. It is a lifesaver!!! I've used it with a 7 pounder and it worked great! You can do almost everything with it on and it distributes the weight evenly Whig means no aching back or shoulders
it can be a pain to put on especially when outside because the ends pretty much have to touch the ground while putting it on, but it's worth all the trouble!
Don't get the khaki color because it'll look like you are wearing a huge ace bandage hahaha don't ask how I know

I have a Moby D that I really like for babies under 3 months. I find once they're 3 months I'd prefer them in a Beco. I like the Moby D because the middle panel isn't stretchy and I feel like baby is more secure. The lactation consultant at the hospital who sold it to me gave me the tip to put it on before I left the house if I knew I was going to be wearing it when I arrived somewhere. That way all you have to do is plop baby inside when you arrive and not have to worry about the straps dragging on the ground picking up all of the parking lot trash!

I've used a similar stretchy wrap and I love it when I'm going to wear it for extended times.. but for most of the time I use an unpadded ring sling.. I LOVE that thing. It's so easy to slip baby in and out.. I can go shopping to multiple stores and slip baby into it for shopping and back out and into the car seat for the travel between stores. and it's easy to tighten and adust if baby wants to shift position.. though I think you could slip baby in and out of a wrap and just leave it on you.. I never got comfortable with that because I couldn't adjust it near as easily.

This is what I do. I do have a couple in different colors, and it kinda just looks like a drapey scarf when baby is not in it. I like to wear a t-shirt, then put the wrap on (mine are not all exactly MOBY's, many are home made - super easy!) Then a button up the front shirt over it all. I *think* this all looks put together...

Thanks for all the responses!
So, those of you who have used a Moby, Should I get the MobyD or the original? What are your favorite colors? I was looking at the chocolate one.

The Moby is awesome, especially for newborns, and in particular small newborns. I have tried numerous carriers/slings, and the Moby is my favorite.
The ring slings I found difficult to use with itty-bitty babies. I had another sling that was designed for newborns supposedly and I found it scrunched their head up and was not very comfortable. The Moby, with adjustment can keep their head and neck in a good position, and is very comfortable for baby and Mom. I have never tried a Moby-D, but I actually liked the stretch of the whole Moby, it made it easy for adjustments, and felt so nice to pat mor rub a little back through.
I actually was able to carry the twins in my Moby at the same time for about 3 months, it was nice to snuggle them both in and be able to go our in the yard with the other kiddos. The other thing I like about the Moby as opposed to some other slings/carriers is that it fits a wider range of sizes, so is adjustable to different seasons of Mama's sizes.
On the note of nursing afer the NICU It may work out just fine, with patience and closeness when he comes home. Our last dd, one of the twins, was in the NICU for 4 or 5 days after she had been home only one day. I kept pumping milk and nursing ds while she was in there. I was able to take some milk up to her each day, and hold her. She would not nurse then, but once we got her home, she did eventually return to nursing full time. At first she liked the bottle a little more since it was easier for her to drink and she had gotten used to it, but she did switch to nursing, supplementing a little with foirmula to make up for what she wouldn't get nursing, and within a month or two they were both nursing full-time, and would not even touch fromula anymore.
I got a navy Moby Wrap, to hide dirt and match with a lot of what I wear. I got mine on Ebay for the cheapest price.

Pilgrim, I am just curious why you found ring slings didn't work with a small baby. My smallest was 7 1/2 lb so I obviously haven't had any really small babies.
I have found that I need to have no padding on the edges of the sling or I can't get the sling down tight enough in the tummy to chest hold that is so wonderful for newborns.

Jodie,
I think you nailed my problem with the ring slings on the head. Mine all have padding on the edge, and I can never get them down tight enough to hold the baby close enough at the newborn stage, and the Moby with how it wraps fits differently, I found it fit better and and had the double wrap around the baby to hold them close and snug. I like the ring slings too, I just like the Moby even better and found it fit even nicer for me and baby at the young stage, before their neck becomes a little more stable. The ring sling seemed to be a little more stiff than the Moby wrap for holding a newborn, as well. Thanks for asking, so I could clarify, I didn't mean to detract from what you said about liking ring slings, or to argue.

I loved my Moby with my last little baby. You could get her so close and tight and snug, almost felt like I was pregnant again (only higher up)
I have the sage green. I think go with whatever color would work with most of your wardrobe.

Pilgrim, yes I don't want to argue either.. the sling I have is like this which means it can be just as tight as the Moby because there's no side padding preventing it from tightening down.
But the most important thing is that it's comfortable for the individual.
I can't tell you how many people stop me and mention 2 things about my sling.. one is that the baby looks comfortable and the other is how content the baby is... and I think there's many many carriers that will provide those two things.
But I do like the simplicity of the ring sling

The issue I have with an unpadded ring sling is that a one shoulder hold kills my collar bone. I am able to get a baby so snug and cozy in one, and I love the adjustability of it, but when I take it off, my collar bone aches. I do have one, and I do use it, but not for extended periods of time b/c of this. It is indeed an individual thing.

Yeah that was the other difference I couldn't think of last night, that I found between the ring sling and the Moby, was the difference in distribution of weight of baby. For me the ring sling ended up making one side(shoulder, collar bone, etc.) hurt in a shorter amount of time than the Moby wrap. With the Moby being wrapped all around you and over two shoulders I could wear it comfortably for longer.
And, like Lisbet, I do still use my ring sling at times. Sometimes for the convenience of how quick it is to throw it on, especially on a hectic day with a teething older baby. But I do still find I lean towards the Moby.
Oh, and another nice factor with the Moby that I liked was the two sides coming over your shoulders can sometimes be helpful in keeping little hands snuggled down to you when you are doing something you want them not to reach out and grab. I would just snuggle the little one in faing me, and put their arms around me, tucking the two "shoulder straps" over them across their back, most of the time they liked the closeness and would stay like that for a little while giving me time to accomplish my task without little hands in the way(particularly nice when trying to cook )
All this said though, it's like JodieLyn and Lisbet said it's all in personal preferences.

Pilgrim, I have a friend who's told me that a non-stretchy wrap can be used even with a small baby on your back.. so that you can do those tasks that you want to keep baby back from. It might be something to look into.

I have a tutorial on my blog. I have wore a baby as young as 3 days old on my back. For a little baby, under about 15 lbs or so, even a stretchy wrap works great for back carries.

I forgot to mention, My first was in the NICU for 5 days (for swallowing meconium) and because of a difficult recovery from C/S I was only able to try nursing him 2-3 times a day, they had me pumping too, but I couldn't get anything from it. But as soon as we got home I went to bed with him and just stayed there the first few days drinking lots of fluids and nursing all the time. My milk came in the evening we got home, and he always nursed like a champ! (And we never had to resort to the formula the hospital sent home "just in case")
On Moby colors.... I have the indigo blue one, it is similar to a denim color, and matches almost anything. Perfect for boys; but I am sure I will use it even if we have a girl.

Stephanie,
If I were you, I'd get the Moby D. I got one for my last baby. He was born a month early and I wanted to kangaroo him as much as possible. The great think about the Moby D is it has that middle panel that will give you extra support once your baby gets a little heavier.
