Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have been enjoying this author lately, but then I saw that some of his books can be anti-catholic. Which ones should we avoid?

My dd is a huge fan of GA Henty's books, we still read the anti-Catholic ones but use them as a jumping off, research and discussions.

I'll be back with more titles from dd but from the top of my head, By Pyke and Dyke is from a Protestant worldview.

Thanks. I would love to hear more about what stuff I should be prepared to discuss. Tell your dd I appreciate any titles that she recommends or thinks should not be recommended

I know this was discussed at some points. this thread, Henty had this advice:

I think specific titles to avoid would be:

St. Bartholomew's Eve
Under Drake's Flag
By England's Aid
Lion of the North

His books pertaining to earlier historical periods (pre 1500s) and much later historical periods (late 1700s on) tend to be less problematic.

The "Cat of Bubastes" is on cd and was very good.

Jenn,

Thanks for that list. We have the Cat of Bubastes on Cd and my ds11 LOVED it. Then he read In Freedom's Cause, which had a few things that I found iffy, but we chatted about.

I went to look up more in For the Love of Literature and that was where I saw the warning abt. some of the books.
