In my own home for crying out loud! We had our home appraised today, and the frist thing the man did was ask us what faith we are. Not, when was your home built, or how many years have you lived here...and my home looks like a shrine! He tells us he was raised Catholic, but he and his wife "broke away" from that faith. I thought that would be the end of it...but not so! He kept commenting on how expensive it is to raise children ect ect. I just nodded and tried to act nice.
Well, as he was leaving he asked me if I was going to have any more children. I said yes, baby is due in Feb. And he had the nerve to tell me I better stop because it is bad for the planet, environment and overpopulation blah blah ad nauseum. He is standing in MY DRIVEWAY, getting paid 350 bucks of my husbands hard earned $$$, and he has the cockiness to speak this way to me. I was charitable. I was a good witness to life, but it left me feeling very angry and upset.
Im no stranger to that agnostic hippie overpopulation religion. That is how I was raised. I just wanted to give him the old Chicago style in your face snappy comeback. I aint no country brood mare you are talking too buddy....but I was nice.
It just left me feeling so icky, that some creepy guy was in my home, dealing with my persional life, and he thinks my children are just eaters and not worthy of life. BUT, he loved the little dog we are dogsitting. Kept making nice comments about the stupid dog!
I refrained from making the comment that we need more bodies to become workers in 20 years so that the nursing home can hire people to wipe his butt when he is in there....I neglected to tell him he could rejoyce because I had a stillborn baby in 2007, so that was one less carbon footprint to burden the planet with. I keot my mouth charitable when he was saying stuff about the government and didnt mention the 1/3 of my generation murdered through abortion that could be contributing to the economy and social security. I was nice because my husband was standing there praying that I would be nice.
Anyway, after i called the bank to complain about how unprofessional this man was, I blessed the house with holy water, ,actually, I baithed the home in holy water. I went to my adoration time today and asked the Lord to give me the grace to forgive this clown, and to convert his heart. I also asked God to please only send good pro life chirstians to work on my home for the rest of the project, and if they arent Catholic, please make them not anti Catholic!
Yikes, and I am only going on 5 live children.

God bless you! We had a similar experience when we were at a car dealership trading in our mini van to buy a 12 seater van. It was awful. I had a hard time being nice and holding back the tears. The best we can do is pray for people with these anti-life prejudices. It's a very scary world out there.

I so feel your anger. He had no right do that. At least you were able to make a complaint, and maybe they'll do something about it. Praying for you.

I feel for you!
I get a lot of the same idea, but from a different stance. I am "patted on the back" for only having one child and isn't that so nice that he can "have everything". (umm, I'm a single mom, we don't have everything! and I don't want everything! Just a husband and a bigger family!)
I like your response - lots of prayer and holy water!

I'm so sorry you had this awful experience. Good for you for calling the bank...I hope they actually do something about this ill-mannered appraiser. I've had contractors and appraisers and all in my house for the last six months and no one has done anything like that!
I am also thankful you and your husband set a good example for your children - take your worries to God, call the bank, bless your home...in the end, you have accomplished great good by doing all of these things.
I am praying for you...for your peace of mind, for a good appraisal, and for the appraiser who needs to figure out how to be a bit more tactful.

Wow. I suppose since he was paid to appraise your house he assumed that gave him the right to appraise your life as well. What a jerk. So sorry you had to be subjected to his stunning lack of tact.
You showed a lot more class that he did by not responding.Good for you.

Oh my! You showed wonderful self-restraint. I don't know that I could have been so charitable.

You are so good!!! I'm so bad!!! I don't know if I could have kept my mouth shut. Actually...my first reaction many times tends to be to shut down so as not to be rude, so I probably would have walked away from in midsentence. Sometimes that whole, if you can't say anything don't say anything at all, I take to an extreme and I have to run!
And I double triple the congrats on calling the bank.
I'll share a small incident of complete opposite that shocked me. A mattress delivery man (and partner) delivered our new mattress to our master bedroom. We have Catholic things about, but it's not a whole lot of stuff. Anyways, this man asked what church I went to, and I immediately went for the defensive in my mind. I told him which one. He said, ahh you are Catholic. I immediately thought here it comes. He then said, no wonder you look so peaceful and can see it in your face.
WOW...good people to exist and I think it was a wonderful prayer you had to ask for them to come to you!!!!!!!

I am so sorry that happened to you. Good for you for reporting him to the bank. We have several holy pictures around our home and used to have a Sacred Heart of Jesus one in our foyer. A man down our road saw it and from then on referred to dh as a "Jesus freak".
People comment to me also regarding having 5 children. I always think "if only they could see the size of some of the families at my church..." Oh well, it is their loss!

Good for you for being such a good witness! I don't think I could have held my tongue!
People tend to think that they can make negative comments about large families to us since we have one child. I just don't understand why the number of children that other families have is so personal to some people.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
-Matthew 5:10
You are in my prayers. I'll be praying for that man, too. Imagine how awful it must be to have that way of thinking. There is simply no peace to be found in it - unfortunately, I know first hand, as a former atheist.
We, too, are expecting our 6th, and when I was pregnant last time (with twins), someone made the overpopulation comment, as well. It makes me laugh, because our family seems small compared to many others. However, it frightens me to think that people take the overpopulation myth on blind faith (for which there is no evidence), but the historical facts of Jesus are just plain ridiculous to them.
http://www.pop.org/ is something to check out, if you already have not.
peace and love to you.

I know your frustration too. When our pediatrician started in on us for having more than our "replacement" number of children ( we have only 5) I told him not to worry: we are concerned with quality as well as quantity!
You are witnessing to this clod even though it seems you're on the short end of the stick right now. How do I know? The pediatrician recently adopted a third! What do you know!
Just smile, my friend, and be at peace! The Lord is truly happy with families such as yours!

It's good you called the bank. Someone needs to know that this guy isn't totally professional. You can bet if he's judging you, he probably has little things to say to other families as well!
