Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh is interested in becoming a Knight, our local parish is very homeschooling-friendly and seems very faithful. I was just wondering if there are other Knights' wives here, and also would you recommend this as a way for men to get to know other men/homeschool Dads?

I don't know if it's a good way to get to know other dads per se. My husband is a 4th degree knight but he doesn't do many activities with the KofC because it can be a serious time commitment. We need him at home. But, when he does have more time and the kids are older, he will be ready to get in there and volunteer for the church.

My dh is also hoping for encouragement in the faith. He works in a machine shop, and he doesn't consider that the greatest of environments. I think he'd really like to meet some other guys who are serious and faithful. KWIM?

I think that sort of quality of a KofC group will vary greatly from council to council. My husband just got his 2nd degree, but he doesn't really do much with them. Many of the men most active are older with grown up children.

However, they DO have GREAT life insurance My husband initially joined just for that

Often the groups are older men but that's not a bad thing.

The insurance is great Lindsay. (try insuring a firefighter anywhere else )

The group here doesn't do a lot.. but that's because it seems that anyone who does anything in town are the ones active in any group and well... you just hit the point where the men can only do so much.. when they're firefighters and lacrosse coaches and boy scout leaders and CCD teachers and all the other things that there are in a small town.. well the Knights are disinclined to do much as a group here because they're all already so busy.

I think the Council here does pancake brunches after the Sunday morning masses, monthly, for charitable giving. And the men seemed like they were in their late 30s to 40s. Not bad I think, my dh is in his early 30s. They seem enthusiastic, faithful, and like a nice bunch of guys. So maybe we are blessed that way? :)

Thanks for your replies!

My husband is a 4th degree knight. Our council is a nice mix of ages but the most active men are mostly the homeschool dads.    The men with grown children are very kind and supportive of the large hs'ing families. That results in many family friendly activities sponsored by our knights. (Except for the boring meetings, which most guys do not like but it's a necessary evil.    )

As the wife of and the daughter and grand-daughter of a Knight I have to say join . There are family events and activities. They all were or are in the same council. It is a little weird to hear Mr H____ of my childhood Christmas party memories called Larry by my dh or when he calls the house and says this is Larry Annie

Rebecca,

My husband is about to a become a knight and it is really a great way to support our church. I'm with Jodie, the insurance rocks (LEO over here too )

Our pastor was a knight before becoming a priest and the Knights were instrumental in helping his vocation.

On a side note Glory Stories has a wonderful Audio CD about the Knights of Columbus martyrs in Mexico that is a great intro for your kids about what Daddy is a part of.

My husband is a Knight as well and our parish is a mix of older and younger men. They put on a variety of events. Its not in anyway filled with homeschooling dads but is filled with lots of good men. And even I enjoy reading the magazine they get every month or so!

My husband just joined this weekend! All good stuff. They are very Marian....gave him a Rosary and told him he is always to carry it, which is nice, because he has always carried his Rosary, and just lost it a few weeks ago...and now he has a nice new one.

The Knights are wonderful and do so much for the community. My father has been a member as long as I can remember. (He also works for the Knights of Columbus. I interned one summer there in college and it was great. It was so cool to work for a company that had a chapel in the building so I could attend Mass at noon.) But back to the Knights, they always need new members. Most of the ones in my father's council are over 50.
