Ladies,
You all never let me down with all of your ideas so I need you again. I need ideas for my little ones and my husband.
Okay so here goes:
DD age 10, DD age 8, DS almost 5, and DS almost 3
Please feel free to ask for any ideas for your little ones as well. As I find links I will come back and post.

my dd4 and ds2.5 will be getting Little People that I've gotten at garage sales this summer 
DD10 is wanting a new MP3 player (I like the sansa clips we got the older kids)

OK, I know nothing about older girls, but here are my ideas for your sons.
DS5 - playmobil and legos! I'm so creative.
DS3 - Wooden trains (or geotrax) and hot wheels. And here I am being creative again. 
~ Homemade play dough with a few playdoh accessories. Or if you're brave, some moon sand. My kids love that stuff.
~ A new board game. My son has the train version of Rush Hour and loves it.
~ Nerf gun
~ This looked interesting. I was thinking of getting this for dd. She loves lite bright, but this seems more appropriate for her age.
~ Wedgits
~ dominoes and puzzles
For the stocking, I like going to Michael's and getting those little wooden car/train/airplane kits that you paint and glue together. The kit is $1 and comes with everything. I also like getting these tubes of animals or vehicles. And you can't go wrong with $1 hot wheels.
Other stocking ideas: a new bath toy, flashlight, compass, watch, play money, playing cards, art supplies, little plastic dinosaurs, and the little $5 lego kits (cars, trucks).
ETA: I was just tidying up and noticed a big town my son built around his model train using these blocks we got him last year for Christmas. You probably have blocks already, but in case you want to add to the collection, these are incredibly durable and simple.

Another thought is combining for major gifts (one boys, one girls) and a small individual gift.
For example this may allow you to buy a wooden train set for the boys.

This might seem strange but my older girls always enjoy getting gift cards to places we normally don't go too. For example our local frozen yogurt place or a restaurant. My dd 10 got one to Cheescake Factory last year and loved going out for dessert with mom and dad. Being that they're girls I never go wrong with an outfit or pjs. They also enjoy getting their usual DVD in the stocking gift (from dad). He tries to pick things that are not common. Like his gotten some Davey and Goliath episodes or Flipper or Adventures in Babysitting. (I really think he tries to relive his childhood this way  )
For my boys all the above mentioned work well plus I'll add outdoor toys: balls, freesbies, a t-ball set, play shovels, dump trucks and/or pull wagons. (my boys love being outside)
Then there is always the "mom" gift that they each get: a book . I always pick something that each one will particularyly enjoy. For example my four year old was a train fan last year so I got him Choo Choo by Virginia Lee Burton. This year its dinosaours for him so I'm looking for a good dinosaur book.
I can't believe we're half way through October, where has the year gone  .

The absolute favorite toy of everyone in the house--8.5 down to 1 is Magnatiles
Every kid who comes into our house to play is fascinated with them too. Friends have bought them for their own children after playing with ours and it keeps their kids entertained for hours too. I'm constantly amazed what they come up with to build. Washington monuments, 4 feet tall free standing giraffes, dinosaur museums with big spikes down the sides that they line up plastic dinosaurs in, trains and castles for playmobil people. They're really pretty amazing. Even the 2 year old builds houses and ice cream cones and stuff. The 1 yr old likes to just stack them.
We got one set of 100 for Christmas 2 years ago, and last Christmas we added the translucent set of 100. They are pricey--but sturdy and I think a great investment. My grandkids will play with them.
