Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Call me a total type A personality, but my mind is always planning. We are loving our science and nature studies this year. I'm thinking ahead to next year. I ran across this curriculum: signs and seasons.

The sample pages don't look like a text book at all. I can also see ourselves incorporating other living books and our nature journals with this. It seems very family read aloud friendly and my dd 10 can easily read independtly.

Has anyone used it? Even if you haven't being so new to CM I'd love to hear what you have put together for astronomy. I like to research the material/books we're going to use since most of it is being used/read for the first time. With so many littles I really have to take my time in planning. (if there is an old thread I'd appreciate someone linking me)

ps Apologia's Astronomy was what we were originally looking at as a spine

Shari, I'm so excited to hear you like it!    We have been living in our house for a year now (a suburb of Los Angeles). I have been enjoying how much more of the sky/stars we can see out here vs. living in the city and really want to study Astronomy next year.

Any thoughts on living books to use with this subject?

Jenny,
It seems to be very self-contained and you wouldn't need to add much. I'm using it with two ninth graders and a sixth grader and I haven't added anything yet. You might try http://charlottemason.tripod.com/elemsci.html. Scroll down for astonomy.

Thanks Shari for the link. I found some old threads about astronomy so my living books list has started (especially for my 7 and 5 yr olds). I'm glad to hear you have a sixth grader doing the work, that gives me confidence that my oldest will do well with this.

Science: Astronomy file folder has started and growing . Time to review and slowly buy or find out if my library carries some of these titles.

Well, to be honest, my sixth grader is mostly just along for the ride and I expect to go over this book again with him when he is older. Given the ages of your kids I wouldn't hesitate to shelve this one until later or just use as a reference for now. My hat is off to you! You really have your hands full!! If you are looking for a hands-on astronomy curriuclum Apologia Astronomy might be a better fit for younger students. I've used their Flying Creatures text and it was alot of fun.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm really considering this just as a spine/reference (for me and oldest dd) .
