Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am probably late to the party but I am finally reading this book and enjoying it very much. Miracles on Maple Hill by Virginia Sorenson is on the Sonlight book list and is a really enchanting story , for children of all ages - yes, even adults!

I think that there are many rabbit trails that could be explored via this book - World War 2, the post war period, rural lifestyles, maple trees and sugar and syrup....to name just a few.

Has anyone read Plain Girl, by the same author? Sounds interesting.

I am going to strew the Maple Hill book in our sitting room, for the boys to pick up, perhaps.

Thanks for the recommendation, Leonie ~ I've never heard of this book before, but it would be a great, timely read for us!

Plain Girl also looks intriguing...

Leonie, what a small world! I just added this book to Kate's reading list yesterday! She really enjoyed it.

We have read "Miracles" as a read-aloud a couple of years ago. And now again... we "rent" our maple trees out and so the dc are watching the collecting process. The book will be a great read right now. The weather is COLD and so the sap is frozen in the lines... hopefully flowing again soon!

Leonie, my son and I got this book a week ago and are anxious to read it. We have been reading a lot of WWII related books so I am glad to hear you recommend it to jumpstart a WWII rabbit trail.

Thanks!

God Bless,

Yikes! I just donated this book yesterday having never read it! (I was in "purge" mode) I'll have to see if I can get it back! See, that's what I get for trying to simplify-I always get rid of the wrong things and regret it later.

Don't you just hate when that happens.

An update - my ten year old started reading the book last night, when he couldn't sleep. I asked him about it this morning and he said he is enjoying iut but he finds the children to be "objectionable. "

He doesn't like the bossyness of the older brother or the little disagreements between the two siblings. I told him they get on better as the story unfolds and they learn to live with their father and his adjusting after the war. This made him happy!

BTW, there could also be a lot of nature study tied in with this book.
