I have been using blog lines to keep up with the blogs I read, but they are closing down on Friday. Any other recommendations? Google reader looks complicated and messy.

I switched from Bloglines to Google reader about a year ago and though there are a few differences to get used to, it was a pretty easy transition. And Google reader has been issue-free, which has been nice compared to all the problems I was experiencing with Bloglines (which is why I switched).
I think once you get past the initial confusion you'll find Google reader to be just as easy as Bloglines. It does have more complex features, but you don't have to use them. I don't.(I'm a "keep it simple" kind of girl myself).

I use Google Reader and find it very user friendly....but I haven't anything else to compare it to! I've never used blog lines so I'm not sure the differences and how easy that is compared to google reader.
Sooooo I guess I wasn't much help!

I also switched to Google Reader a couple of years ago because I was having problems with Bloglines. I really like Google Reader sooo much more now that I am used to it. It makes it so much easier to find "that post I read sometime last year... where was that again?"

I loved bloglines, and thought I could never switch, but I made the switch to Google Reader about a year ago and haven't looked back. It did take adjusting...I think the hardest part was importing my current subs and then resorting them in the order I wanted, as that was different.
But, like said above, to be able to mark posts, search past posts, it's such a great tool. I've been very pleased. I don't have to bookmark or save a favorite post elsewhere; it's all at my fingertipes with a quick search.

Google Reader is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I've never used anything else.
You can tag each feed, and that sorts it into a folder with that tag name. That's how I group my posts. Then, I can read the posts from the folders I want to read.

Maybe it is comfort with the familiar, but I am so frustrated with google reader already. I want to import my blogs from blog reader. I can't seem to do it, and I don't want to individually put them in. Does anyone know if I can do this?

That was my big hurdle. I was in my comfort zone at Bloglines. I was able to import my blogs, but I had to individually reorganize them.
First export your file from bloglines, creating a .opml. Have you created Google Reader account yet?
Way at the bottom of Google Reader page on the left there is a line "Manage Subscriptions" which takes you to the Settings page. Then click on import/export and enter your file. I just retried it and it worked for me.

This was extremely helpful information. Thank you so much! Anything that helps me with organization is so appreciated!
I have never used bloglines;actually, I have never even heard of it until just now so there will be no trouble adjusting! The funny thing is that even though I added a few blogs to my google reader about a year ago, I am just realizing how to use it!
I am slow to learn all this technology, but I try to remember that I CAN do this. Thankfully, occasionally I get some help from others (like you wonderful 4realers) who have already traveled the road and can share their expertise and I also have some kind older children who help Mom out from time to time!
Thanks again!
Jill
