Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The picture book game thread inspired me to do some shelf cleaning today.

Here is a fun exercise:
Think of all your picture books... then think about what topics you think you have an overabundance of on your shelves.

I have been thinking lately that I am sick of dinosaur books, and that none of my dc ever real cared that much about dinosaurs in the first place.

But, going to my shelves today, I came up with only 4 dinosaur books... OTOH, I believe I could stock a library shelf for Martin Luther King Jr, Christopher Columbus and books with an ocean/sea theme .

What I thought I had and what I actually have were pretty far off.

I did discover several very nice artist bio books on the shelf, too, that I had completely forgotten I had.

All together a very interesting trip to the bookshelves....

We have a zillion Christmas books, too.

Dd is sloooowwwly cleaning out her shelves, and just sold about 50 books at a yard sale. Most were Berenstain Bears, Clifford, etc.

I didn't let her sell any Richard Scarry books...kids just love them, for whatever reason. I hope to read them to grandchildren some day.

Well I have an overabundance of Australian picture books, but well, I won't part with them, Australian literature is my weakness.

I didn't like Richard Scarry as much when I was younger, but now see why he is so attractive to children, so I've been amassing some of those books. After Reading Golden Legacy I like him even more.

I also have a lot of saint books, and for picture books, many St. Francis and St. Nicholas. But I doubt I'll part with them, and probably will add more.

When I saw the subject, the first thing I thought of was...Noise!..oh!...you meant books??...

I have a lot of books that I have picked up over the years from some of the homeschool catalogs and added to that in what I guess would be called liturgical year books. We have been amassing books for Easter and Christmas, in particular. I have a lot of historical fiction and beginning science as well...but I don't have nearly enough yet!    I especially love OOP books. I love finding them at book sales and such.

In the past 3 cross-continent moves we have pared down our book collection significantly. BUT...I still seem to have too many books on architecture, outer space, and Lewis and Clark.
Weird.
