Treasure Chest of Fun & Fact was a Catholic comic book published by George A. Pflaum of Dayton, Ohio and provided to Catholic parochial school students between 1946 and 1972.

Glad to see you are as enthusiastic about your find as I was  . I stumbled on them last year when we did our history project research. They are fabulous especially for history topics with a Catholic angle - I had started a thread in the history forum on them. Jenn and I have also been including them as linked resources in the Liturgical Year planning threads recently - as they include stories of many of the saints for feast days. You really do have to open the link Stef has above and look at the editions to appreciate them. If you haven't seen these or taken a peak, please do - such a rich resource for us as home educators.  Don't miss it.

Mary! I should have checked the archives. I should have known one of you gals would have found this already.
They're great! Jodie, you'll have to click through -- there's a series of screens you'll have to click to get to a specific comic; I've checked out 6 or 7 and they all seem to be appropriate for all ages. I'm wondering now if I should ask for printer ink for Christmas from the relatives so I can print these out and put them in a binder or something.

Aren't they fabulous, Stef? I'm so glad Mary clued us in!
My father remembers these quite vividly, all with very fond memories. His favorite parts were the serials. Always thumbed ahead to catch up with the next episode.

Okay, this is not about Treasure Chest -- but would anyone (Jenn, Mary?) happen to know where I can get copies of an old comic book series I think from Pauline Press (?) -- not sure if they were the original publishers. I had Catholic comics about St. Joan of Arc and one about Jacob and Esau and a couple of others I can't remember now.... The Jacob and Esau were full-color cartoon drawings, but the
St. Joan of Arc was black and white photographs of people (like a reenactment, IIRC) with dialogue. These were in print around 1979, I was 11 and loved them! I've looked at the Pauline website but can't find them. Maybe I'm not remembering the correct publisher.

Pauline Books & Media (Daughters of St. Paul) has published comic books in the past - not sure of the years, but I only saw them when I was an adult so in the 90's. We have the Padre Pio one. There is also a John Paul II still available. Those are the only two they currently publish.
There is also a Paulist Press - don't think they had a comic book.
Marvel Comics did three Catholic comic books in the early 80's. I have the John Paul II one. Currently I have a copy of the Mother Teresa one as well - checked out from our seminary/theological library. There is a St. Francis of Assisi one as well. Those were the only ones.
This website has information about past series of Catholic comic books and has the ones the Daughters of St. Paul did - it does include a Joan of Arc one though no Old Testament.
We recently discussed in another thread one of the publishers of a comic he mentions - Catechetical Guild Educational Society. They started with the comic books TOPIX. Here is a sample of one of those. Timeless TOPIX. The other old series is Heroes All. I couldn't find many samples on line, but here is one. It looks like they covered more OT stories.

I looked, Mary, and didn't see it. :(
The comic books were LARGE, not the regular sized comic books ala Marvel or DC comics. I'd say about 9 x 12. Beautifully done, full costumes, etc. -- almost like stills from a black and white movie. Hm. Maybe I should find black and white movies on St. Joan and see if anything look similar?

Oooh, Mary! You do know how to find these things! I remember those DSP comics. My mother might still have a few....I'll have to go bug her about that.
We bought the old Marvel Comics St. Francis of Assisi the other day.
I like to have a variety for saints stories -- picture books, chapter books, multiple saints in one volume, and graphic novel/comic book style.
This is a hardback, but Through the Mountains is comic book style of St. Josemaria.
