Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking to introduce my older children (4yo and almost-4yo) to some of the traditional fairy and folk tales this year--Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, etc. Any favorite collections to recommend for preschoolers?

I have a variety of books, mainly the original Grimms, Andersons etc which I read and then re-tell, plus a couple of lavishly illustrated books I keep around for the children to look at when they want that are old and OOP. So not much help specifically I am afraid but it is so true that children love fairy tales and folk tales and mine beg for me to make new ones up for them which is always fun - and then I get a new book or find a new online source and find that my "new story" is just a variation on one that already exists. Barefoot Books have some nice, brightly illustrated books with different tales from a lot of different cultures which are lovely - we have borrowed several from friends.

This version, illustrated by Scott Gustafson is really lovely to look at. It only includes 10 fairy tales so is not as complete as some others if you want more stories. It has the most popular basic ones though.

I have a book from my childhood called the World's Best Fairy Tales by Reader's Digest. It is a huge collection of fairy tales and it contains all the classic ones from Grimm, Lang, Hans Christian Andersen as well as Ali Baba, Chicken Little, etc. It is a great book. I just checked and it seems to be widely available used and very inexpensive.
