My oldest DD is once again back in the hospital. She was diagnosed in early February with pseudotumor cerebii while she was in her second semester at college. She had lost most of her vision at the time.
She had a shunt placed to drain the spinal fluid and control pressure and she also had optic nerve surgery on both eyes. Thankfully over time, some limited sight returned.
In early June there was an issue with a blockage in the shunt tube and the tube placement was changed. Two weeks later there were additional issues and her vision was again being affected. It turns out her shunt was blocked so it was replaced. Her vision never returned to her new baseline.
Last week the stress of it all began to get to her and she attempted to commit suicide THREE different times. The last time she overdosed on several handfulls of ibruprofen. (She was hospitalized at each attempt, but was released within 24 hours since she was "safe.") Friday morning was her last attempt. While in the behavioral health unit, her vision began getting even worse. The local hospital ran several tests and her neurosurgeon wanted her transferred to his hospital, but there were no neurosugery beds available. The transfer finally happened yesterday evening.
We are now waiting on several other tests that involve the shunt system. The doctors are also looking at putting a lumbar drain in to control her fluid pressure and hopefully improve/maintain her vision.
I am asking for prayers that the sight issue is resolved without additional brain surgery and her mental health is restored so she can deal with this issue for the rest of her life.

Praise God your dd is receiving cooperative care to address her physical and mental health concerns and how they may be related. I am praying with great hope for complete healing and comfort for all who are being touched by this cross.
Love,

Praying for your intentions - tonight especially I will be up most of the night while dd has some tests run - so your dd will be in my rosaries. Also prayers for the vision - St. Lucy intercede for her.

I am thanking you all for your prayers. They are being heard. As of right now there are no issues with her shunt so that means no more surgeries for now. She will meet with the neuro-opthamologist for more vision testing. She said she thinks the vision is getting better. It turns out that over-dosing on ibrupofen can cause visual disturbances and headaches, so that may explain the issues.
We also met with wonderful psychatrists that have come up with a treatment plan for her to get some help to cope with all that she has gone through this year. Once she is released from the hospital, she will enter a local intensive day program for young adults. They are also going to make sure she is not released until this program is in place for her.
Once again thank you for all the prayers. Today has been the smoothest in the past week.

Oh, I'm so thankful for this news! I'm sure you and your daughter will face many bumps in the road ahead, but it sounds as though her medical team is doing everything possible to ensure her safety and recovery.
Thanks so much for posting this happy update.
Still praying...

The request for your daughter has really touched our heart. Know that we continue to offer prayers for her and for your family. May God sustain you all as you seek to carry the cross before you and may we be permitted to help you in this with prayer and sacrifice - even if we cannot physically offer you support. Thankful that you were spared further surgery. Continuing to pray to St. Lucy for the vision.
