Hey Gals , hope the summer is going good for You All
I am wanting to wear some pretty earings but whenever I put them into my holes my ears turn bright red and get extremely itchy ! It then takes many hrs or overnight to get my ears back to normal . I've not worn earings for a good 14 yrs now and a dear friend gave me these . I so want to wear them . I know I can wear earings of a certain metal as my last pair ( I left them under a pillow in a MX motel and I haven't had any luck finding a pair that will not make me itch.
sorry for this long explanation ! ideas on where to purchase hooky things I can attach my earings to that will not make me itch is my request for help
Thanks a bunch
Rox

Not sure of where.. but I'd look for ones that are actual gold.. those are some of the most hypoallergenic.
Not sure about earrings... but I've also heard of coating the part of jewelry that touches your skin with clear nail polish so that you can wear it without the metal touching your sking to cause problems.

It might be an allergy to nickel...my mom has this allergy and the symptoms match your description.
You may be able to find sterling silver ear wires at a craft shop in your area (my mom can wear sterling, 14K gold and not much else in the jewelry arena). There are many jewelry-making websites, too, so you could probably mail order them, but you'd pay more because of the shipping costs.
Another idea would be to disassemble a pair of earrings that appears to be sterling or gold and see how those ear wires work out. Sometimes you can find old jewelry at yard sales; sterling is fairly easy to spot.

The ONLY kind of inexpensive (but really cool) earrings I can wear with my intense nickel allergy are the ones from Simply Whispers ... I have NEVER had problems with them. Of course, I would like to have pure gold or pure silver ... but dh works for the Catholic Church ....
They also sell other pieces of jewelry so it's a great place if you have allergies to cheap jewelry ....
ETA: they also sell the jewelry "findings" if you want to make your own jewelry. I've switched out earring backs or hoops when I can and am able to use gifted earrings with SW's hoops or posts/backs.

Ladies this is incredibly helpful ! I am so tired of my allergies and MCS at times I am just a big itch ball
I'll try thr cheap route first . I do wear only silver jewlery for rings neckalces etc. and do not have allery it seems so it must be nickel .
My dh is taking me out to look this weekend for some clothes etc. so I'm going to have a look for earing hooks too .
This really is such a great relief to me . Thanks so much .

I have the same problem - only mine end up scabbing. I second the clear nail polish for the earrings that bother you.

I can't wear ANY metal earrings anymore. Not even top quality gold, or titanium.
I *can* wear medical plastic ones. They are expensive, and there are not a lot of choices, but it is better than nothing (and I have my ears pierced 4 times on one side, and two on the other, and haven't been able to wear earrings for YEARS until I found the surgical plastic.) Not even the Simply Whispers worked for me.
Serenity Jewelry Surgical Plastic Earrings (It was CRAZY cheaper to order from overseas than it was to order the same brand from any US company that I could find. go figure.)

Platinum. I can't wear anything but platinum. Which means that I have exactly 2 pairs of earrings that I have worn for the past decade. Occasionally I will find a cheap pair somewhere that I can wear for a few weeks but eventually they make me hurt and I go back to the platinum ones....

I feel your pain! I can only wear gold post earrings now, so I'm down to a single pair for now! I talked to my mom about it, and she suggested dipping the post into a salve or ointment to coat it so there is a barrier between the metal and the skin.

I can't wear anything with nickel in it --it turns my skin green and itches. Nickel free earrings are getting easier to find but nickel free chains not so much.

I was like Laura, couldn't wear anything - not even Simply Whispers (I haven't tried the ones she mentioned). I found though, that when I went off of all the foods my kids were allergic to when I was nursing them, my allergy to earrings disappeared as well. Fortunately or unfortunately, I decided I like milk and eggs (and about 20 other things LOL) more than wearing earrings, so I don't keep it up. Just another thought!
