As part of our morning prayer time I am wanting to add a hymn for each month; both ones that we sing at Mass and also new ones. I think it would be good for some of those we learn to be Latin hymns but because we attend the Novus Ordo I would also like to have many in english.
For June we sang "Soul of My Savior". Hoping for some suggestions for July!

We generally choose hymns based on the Liturgical calendar, July being the month of the Precious Blood, I find a little harder to find hymns. Most Blessed Sacrament hymns seem to focus on His Precious body.
I did find some hymns in an old little red 'Living Parish' hymn book, but I don't know the tunes.
Hail, Jesus, hail, who for my sake
Sweet Blood from Mary's veins did take
and
Glory be to Jesus
Who in bitter pains
Pour-d for me the life blood
from his sacred veins.

thanks for these Erin! I have to admit I'm not familiar with the first but we do sing the second sometimes at Mass. And yes the liturgical year is what I am hoping to apply to our hymn singing, once again thank you for your help!

I went searching on youtube and found a recording of the second hymn (I've never heard it, you're so lucky) but couldn't find anything for the first either.
Do you want a list of Blessed Sacrament hymns?

It depends on what your aims for having monthly hymns. Since my boys are young, I'm aiming to help them be familiar with very basic hymns and chant throughout the year. Mainly I'm want familiarity with hearing Latin and chant, whether they have it down pat or not. Some of our monthly singing might be a chant part of the Mass, or traditional hymn, like for Benediction. I tend to sing these at bedtime, after reading, so I call it "Liturgical Lullabies".
Jubilate Deo was put out in 1974 and then a revision in 1987. Pope Paul VI's intention was to give a minimum repertoire of Latin chant and hymns for every Catholic.

Jenn, what a lovely list of hymns!
I'm happy to see my own children showing more interest in traditional hymns; they both have good singing voices and I hope they will grow to love the musical traditions of our faith.
I'd love some recommendations for recordings of traditional hymns, if anyone would like to share them.

You could easily create your own collection, as there are so many sound files online. The above link had some sound bytes of most of the hymns.
Our favorite Marian hymns are two cds from the Daughters of St. Paul, Handmaiden of the Lord, I and II. They have a few other cds, like Catholic Favorites I and II, which I've heard clips and they are nice, but the Marian ones I like best. Pauline Books.
My mother put together this cd Non Nobis Domine a few years back and it's still one of our favorite cds to listen to for Catholic music.
GIA publishes several cds in a series, with some done by the Cathedral Singers direccted by Richard Proulx. There's quite a few volumes, so I'd pick and choose the ones you enjoy. Ones in particular I like: Catholic Latin Classics

Catholic Communion Classics
Amazon has a few.

Thanks, Jenn. My music-editing time is limited, so it's nice to have some options to consider that don't involve me spending hours on the project.
I really hope that I can gently encourage my children to listen thoughtfully to traditional hymns. They are music-savvy enough to know what doesn't resonate with them (ds instinctively, dd as a musician and vocalist), so the time seems ripe to introduce them to some of th best hymns...ones they only hear during Holy Week...
I hope other parents will add their experiences, suggestions and recommendations!

My list is a work in progress. I have the aim for a chant and a hymn, but not all that's included will happen all at once, and I'm sure I'll add over time.
In fact, my mother and I were discussing Jesus Jesus Come to Me (this MIDI is too fast!), which is a little bit kitschy song, but great for children, and to include in prayers, it's a perfect spiritual communion prayer.

Erin, these are just my projected ideas, as I only try to do a hymn a month or liturgical season.
My approach is to just sing it around the house, sing it at bedtime, play recordings so they learn it by heart. And if it's mainly done in Latin, I sing it in Latin. They learned Regina Caeli this Easter, and starting on Salve Regina.
Pronunciation isn't perfect; I'm aiming for familiarity.
