What ways can you present foreign languages to younger children? Muzzy? I'd love to hear suggestions. I know at this stage they are so open to music and the different languages I hate to miss the opportunity!

Jenn,
We're learning German using Teach Me German & Teach Me More German -- they have real German and English songs translated into the other language so the kids know some of the songs and are learnign the german for those and vice versa.
We also have German for Children which works very well -- with a nice activity booklet and easy phrasing.
Both of these suggestions come in other languages like French and Spanish. We have other stuff, but these are great with the little ones -- John Paul (3) loves the Teach Me German ones and will sit and listen to us read about Monster Ratte in the German for Children.
Hope this helps.....
Blessings!

i know it's pricey but rosetta stone spanish is really working well for my kids! i figure with 4 kids and the years of homeschooling they're worth it in the long run. what i've done is make copies of the CDs and keep the originals tucked away so that even if they break the copies we're still safe (otherwise they get scratched, stepped on, stuck in drawers then cracked, etc.) the only thing is now they want to learn german and french too (sigh).... we'll see...
edited to say: i know you said "young children" -- my 4-year old can't do everything yet, but she's learning a lot just listening to and watching the others do the lessons.

I began teaching my son Spanish six months ago, when he was 3.5 years old. I can’t believe how much he’s learned in the past six months, nor can I believe how easy it has been. I think it is really true that the 3-6 year age window is the easiest time to learn a foreign language.
I began by showing him a Spanish video every day. I don’t allow any t.v. in my house except Spanish videos, so needless to say, they were all very popular. Below is a list of all the videos we showed and enjoyed. I borrowed all these books from our local library. I don’t recommend buying any videos, because even the most loved videos became old after a couple of weeks of use.
Also, one other problem with the videos – after a while, we became bored with introductory videos – they all seem to teach the same thing: colors, numbers, food, and body parts. It was at this point that we moved on to Lyric Language Spanish and Muzzy. Muzzy is wonderful, but it does have some themes that make me a little nervous about showing it to a 4 year old (a love triangle, an alien, etc..).
In addition to the videos, we also read a lot of Spanish storybooks. Any book by Susan Middleton Elya is fabulous and a great place to start. Her “Say Hola to Spanish” series (3 books) are enjoyed by kid and mom alike!
Finally, I also have a couple of Spanish CD’s that we’ve enjoyed. I play them in the car and during my son’s quiet time.
All of the resources I’ve used are listed below. Like I said earlier, my son has really progressed quickly in his Spanish. If only I could remember more of my high school Spanish, he would probably be fluent right now. (I couldn’t remember any of it when we began six months ago, but I’m getting a little better now.) It is humbling to think that my four year old son knows more Spanish than I do, even though I had four years of high school Spanish!
Books:
dePaola, Tomie, Te amo sol, te amo luna.
Elya, Susan Middleton. Say Hola to Spanish.
Elya, Susan Middleton. Say Hola to Spanish, otra vez.
Elya, Susan Middleton. Say Hola to Spanish at the circus.
Elya, Susan Middleton. Eight animals play ball
Elya, Susan Middleton. Eight animals on the town
Elya, Susan Middleton. Cowboy Jose
Elya, Susan Middleton . Fairy trails
Rogers, Alan, El rinoceronte rojo
CD’s and Videos:
CD, Spanish for children.
DVD, Learn Spanish with Carlos & Chiquitita.
DVD, Professor Parrot Speaks Spanish. We are friends.
DVD, Hola Amigos.
DVD. First fun with Spanish
DVD, Spanish for Kids, Vol 1 (Also has Carlos and Chiquitita)
DVD, Spanish for Kids, Vol 2 (Also has Carlos and Chiquitita)
CD and DVD, Lyric Language Spanish. (with the Family Circus)
DVD, Muzzy Spanish. (produced by the BBC)
If you know of any other good resources for 3 to 6 year olds, please post them! We are always looking for new material!
