Hi Everyone,
I came across this site in my research, and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with it? I'm rather liking the idea of unit studies, as my son is a very hands on learner and tends to focus on one particular thing at a time. Plus, as my children grow, I like the idea of being able to teach all the children at the same time with the same resources. I know this isn't a complete curriculum, but for what it has, is it good?

I have their first four books? I like how they have tons of ideas for you to pick out and have them coded so you can find which ones work for the various age groups. They are on Cathy Duffy's top 100 list.
There's too much to do, so you'd have to pick and choose. One complaint is that they are missing a great list of literature books -- or at least, they're hard to find in their "to do" list. So I planned to use RC History's ideas with History links... (or you could use Reading Your Way throught History as a reference too).
However we had a few crisis years, so... we didn't use them after making the plans.  This year I'm trying Ancient History again, but opted for a more scripted Ancient History program (winterpromise).

We used their first 3 books as spines. As Maryan said, there is way too much in each book to do it all. I did supplement with more hands-on ideas and extra books, but I tend to do that no matter what I use. My high schoolers remember more about those 3 units of history than any others, so I guess they worked well! They enjoyed it too. The books do require a lot of mom time, so be prepared for that.

Agreeing with Janette and Maryan. There is a lot of planning time required with HL. I've used every one except Ancient Israel and Early Medieval. There are sections with things to do listed, but no real timeframe is given. I do like that each activity is graded according to approximate student age. So you have to go through the book and first pick out what you want to do. Then see how long you think it will take, and how much time you have, and figure a schedule yourself. Agreeing that they are light on literature, but I used some of the titles recommended on Reading Your Way Through History.
I actually, in retrospect, would much rather have a spine and use HL for ideas to supplement it. But that's just me.
Anyone use ABC's of Catholic Culture from Our Father's House, and can compare it to HL?

That is how I would (have) used them. There is so much information and ideas contained in them. I like to pick and choose hands on ideas and resources from them to use to go along with what we are doing. Most of my friends who are looking for a scheduled and detailed curriculum have not cared for them because they aren't laid out that way. History Links a more a compilation of ideas and the family needs to be willing to do some leg work to pull it together.

Hi all, I have used History links for Rome -the 3 books.
I have supplemented it with computer research and of course living books. I look ahead and see what books are needed. Some of which we may have covered in another time or lesson.
We have enjoyed it and we go off on tangents according to what we are interested in, or I feel needs to be covered. I don't find that they need much lesson preparation.
We note book our finding and I ask my DD to write a report on an area I choose. We have built up quite a folder.
I will use Early middle ages, and I believe the late medieval is available this year.
