Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone tell me if Augustine of Hippo by Simonetta Carr contains anything anti-Catholic?

Or is there a different, Catholic, picture book biography of St. Augustine that I am missing?

Hi Sara.

The author of Augustine of Hippo, Simonetta Carr, has generously shared some information she hoped would answer your question. At her request, I'm posting the information for your consideration:

Simonetta Carr wrote:
There is nothing anti-Catholic in the book, because it's based on what Augustine actually wrote. It has been reviewed by the President of the Associazione Sant'Agostino in Italy and appears on their website.

Dr. Beretta's review appears here.

So, "no" is the short answer. We all love Saint Augustine! Although my publisher is Protestant, I am planning to write about some great men of God from our "common" past, like St. Athanasius, St. Ireneus, and maybe even St. Thomas Aquinas.

Thank you Sara for your interest, and Jennifer for your help!

Simonetta Carr

P.S. You can visit my blog and leave comments there.

Thank you for taking the time to offer clarification, Simonetta.
