Hello,
I went for an ultrasound at 8 wks pregnant and was told that the baby was 6 wks size and there was no heartbeat. I went back for another at 9 wks and the result was the same. I chose to wait for a natural miscarriage. I will be 14 wks tomorrow and it hasn't happened yet. I have had no bleeding or even spotting. I did not have my usual morning sickness during this pregancy, so I think it's likely that the ultrasounds are correct.
Finally, my question: How long have you waited for a natural miscarriage to happen? Have you had a similar situation? I'm wondering if it's possible that it could be delayed a few more weeks.

My miscarriage was at 12 weeks, baby sized approx. 10 weeks.. we found out for sure there was no heart beat only a day or two before the miscarriage.
What has your doc/midwife said about continuing to wait? I do know that the longer you go that there are other health concerns.. and you'll want to watch for any signs of infection, nasty odors, fever and such.

My doctor was fine with me waiting. I know to watch for signs of infection. My next appointment will be in a week. I guess I'd like to know if there are others who have had a baby die at six weeks, and then they miscarry at 14, 15 or 16 weeks. Most people I've talked with have had a D & C or the miscarriage happens within 2-4 weeks.

Cheryl, I am so sorry. So sorry. I miscarried at 12 weeks in December, the baby only was 6 weeks in size but had a steady heartbeat until 10 weeks. (her heart stopped sometime in the 10th week as we had ultrasounds every 5 days, just waiting for the little one to pass since she wasn't growing at all.) Not having an OB or midwife with hospital privileges, we chose to wait it out. My midwives prepared me to wait for weeks or even months. I was advised to keep watch for signs of infection and that was about it, and to trust that things would happen in God's time. That two weeks was agonizing for me and I did opt for herbal measures to help encourage things along. I had non-stop spotting so I knew it was eminent. You may want to try mega doses of Vit.C. That was what I started with and my cramping/bleeding picked up after 2 days of that - then we went to a stronger concoction.
If you are planning on staying at home to miscarry - use this waiting period to strengthen yourself as much as you can. Blood building foods and supplements - lots of lean red meat, spinach, liquid floridix is really good. I also 'treated' myself to the things I would have after labor. A pair of pretty pajamas, special chocolates, a good book and a good bottle of wine. I stayed in bed 5 days after the physical loss and took care of myself just like after labor/delivery.
I will keep you in my prayers Cheryl. Please keep us posted.

Oh Cheryl I am so sorry!
I miscarried our third at 11 weeks, but on the ultrasound done when I first started bleeding (I had not had one earlier) the baby was not even visible so he or she probably died before 6 weeks. Oddly, I was considerably more nauseous that pregnancy than with any of the others.

I am praying for you, Cheryl. My miscarriage happened quickly (4 days) after I started spotting/bleeding. We think the baby had died about two weeks prior.
God bless you during this time.

Thank you ladies for your responses. Lisa, I appreciate your ideas for before and after. I've been snacking on ice cream, Hostess cupcakes, caffeine free diet coke... it's awful. I should be taking better care of myself. This week has been hard. I've been expecting it to start every day. My dh is hoping the ultrasounds are wrong and that the baby is fine. If it doesn't happen this weekend, I think I'll ask for another ultrasound and maybe the blood tests. I'll let you know.
Thanks again.

I am so sorry Cheryl for your loss. I miscarried at 12 weeks and our little one did not come naturally. I hope that all goes for you. I am still having some complications from it. So do take care of yourself sometimes this is harder on your body than actual birth.
Hugs and prayers.
