Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone read Tumtum and Nutmeg aloud? Did you love it? Hate it? Do you recommend it?

oh how funny Sarah! we're on the same wavelength: I JUST saw this at the library yesterday and wondered if it was worthwhile. so I'm curious to see what others say. (after consulting with the kids, the 8-year-old boy won out and we ended up taking home this by the "How to Train Your Dragon" author instead. the kids and their dad LOVE it so far, although I'm not sure where it would fall along the twaddle spectrum ...)

I've been reading it aloud to my younger boys and we just love it. I am terrible at doing "voices," but I still try. They say if it's ever made into a movie that I'd have to do the voice of General Marchmouse (one of the mice who saves the day in the first adventure and causes trouble in the second. We haven't read the third yet.) Apparently he's the one voice I get right. You really ought to borrow it!

Edited to add that even my older two are amused when they catch parts of the story.

Awesome. Thanks, Janette.

I think that's up next on the read-aloud docket then.

Thanks for the tip. I just reserved this one at the library. I think my dc will really like it.

I just got this the other day at the library, and have read the first couple chapters, and it looks really great!

So, this was just published in 2008/09!   Here is the official Tumtum and Nutmeg Website.

The version I have has 3 books in 1:
  1. Tumtum & Nutmeg
  2. The Great Escape
  3. The Pirates' Treasure

How fun! I had no idea there was a website or that there was more than one version. We have that version too. I was referring to the first two books in my post above.

Oooh- thanks Suzanne!

(That's the version I have from the library, too. We're going to start it today! )
