Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I really want to start dd on a foreign language this year. We dabbled in Latin a few years ago and she absolutely hated it, so I won't force her to do that again, and she knows a bit of spanish from watching Dora the Explorer.

Anyhow, I asked her what language she was interested in and she chose Chinese. I'm not surprised, because she loves China and plans to go there someday.   But, I'm not sure what program we should look at. I don't know that we can afford something like Rosetta Stone right now.

What is a good program for learning to speak Chinese?

Thanks!

Hi Emily,

Check out the Speak Mandarin Chinese For Beginners The Michel Thomas Program. We have their Italian, French, Spanish and Russian programs and LOVE them!

Good luck and God Bless.

Marie

Hi Emily, I don't know if you are still researching this, but we used Mandarin Immersion tapes from our library, a pocket Mandarin Chinese dictionary, and Reading and Writing Chinese by McNaughton. I didn't count it for school credit; this was purely for fun on our part. I have to say I enjoyed the study as much as the kids.
