Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is there a money management software out there you can get free or cheap.. I see the new quicken is $60 and probably does way more than I need.

I want something that does the checkbook register type things for entering transactions.. does multiple (many) accounts.. and uses categories and lets you use those to make a budget from.. that will let you print the budget and reconciliations reports and such.

Jodie,
My mom has been using this program for several years and LOVES it!!! It has a simple name, and it is a simple and intuitive program, but don't let that fool you - it is packed with very useful features - Budget. If you're familiar at all with Dave Ramsey's "envelope system", this is basically an online/digital software program along those same principles. Rob and I are about to switch over to it, and I'm THRILLED!!

It's $30 for windows/$40 for macs -- check out their products page! They even have an App available for the iphone!

Forgot to say that that you can download a trial version for free! The trial version has no expiration - so you can use it indefinitely, but some of the features are disabled on the trial version.

You have to go to the individual product pages to see the option for the free trial version download.

I was afraid of this.. I've used Quicken so long that quicken is what is intuitive for me now.. and anything else looks wrong and drives me nuts trying to find things. ok so it's a short trip.

this is actually for the boy scout troop, not my personal finances.. but it's one of those things that I need to know to make a reasonable decision on my time if I can take over the finances for a time.. they really need what a money program can do.. making it so much easier to do lots of things.. but part of the work of getting that set up will be figuring out a new program (or saddling them with an old program )

I was looking into mint.com. It seems really easy and you can hook all your accounts into it. Quicken drove me nuts with all the double entry--register and then enter. And dh and I fought over how to categorize everything.
I am trying to feel comfortable with the account link thing. Since most of our $$ goes through a credit card.

the account link thing would drive me nuts.. I use too many "imaginary" accounts and I don't care at all for linking directly to the account.

Veritas Financial Ministries has an online system with several budget tools available and it's free. (Veritas is a Catholic Financial Ministry).
