Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

WOW!! I'm so impressed with Great Adventure Kids. This will be our 2nd time through Great Adventure (we did it 4 years ago with our Jr. High girl before T3 or Epic came out) and I was concerned that the adult version would be too boring for my 2nd Jr. High girl. I ordered Great Adventure Kids for the younger boys and it's WONDERFUL!

I understand the kids chart so much better than I did the adult chart (maybe I'm just better with the pictures). I also love that it gives the important stories. I get so overwhelmed trying to read the kids every story in the Golden Children's Bible. We get behind and I don't know what to do. I can be sure and hit the 4 major stories per time period and any other stories I fit in are just gravy!

We do school 4 days a week and this is my plan:

2 days a week we'll do bible stories. On Tues & Thursdays for the elementary kids we'll :

start with the prayer on the back of the chart for that period.
read over the whole chart up to the period we're in
review 1 memory verse for the week
read the bible story and color the picture
ask the kids if they can recite the memory verse and tell me items on the chart
have the kids do a narration
for Wednesday, they can play the card game and do an activity from Old Testament Days

Fridays we'll cover some catechism, big-picture sorts of discussions.

My question is - how do I cover the covenants with the younger kids? I can tell them about it, but I was looking for something hands-on or fun to do to drive it home. Any suggestions?

Hi Jenn! We had an amazing time crafting with the Covenants!! I never blogged our work with David, but you can get some ideas of what we did with the first 3 covenants and maybe find something in there for use with your youngers!

The kids loved looking for the symbols in the Old Testament stories that prefigured Our Lord or the Sacraments and they loved crafting those and including them in our displays.

Hope you can find an idea or two here that you might be able to use!

Thanks for sharing your plan for Great Adventure Kids Jenn! I had considered getting it last year, and then never did. I'm putting it back on my list for next year though. Do you think it can be done in 2 days a week?

And Jennifer, those Covenant crafts are awesome. What a neat way to teach the kids! I'm really impressed by your creativity. I love the symbols myself, but have never thought to teach that to my kids. Looks like my plans for next year's Religion are getting planned now.

Thanks so much ladies!

Becky, if you're planning on doing G.A.Kids over a year, I think 2x/wk would be sufficient. It's 12 time periods and 4 stories from each period, so that's 24 weeks worth of bible stories -- add in a few extra stories from the bible and you've got a year of scripture for the kids.

There isn't much in the way of lesson plans (although it says it has a teacher guide, it didn't do much for me.)

Jennifer, I LOVE your covenant crafts and the most simple way of explaining the Christ being prefigured in the O.T. Maybe we'll do something with decorating cookies (my kids LOVE to bake) or a shrinky dink mobile for the 6 convenants.

Thanks for getting my brain moving!!!
