Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone seen this? It is new from Hillside Education. Does anyone know if this would be appropriate also for high school? Margot??

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tea,
I think it's good for high school. I intended it for 8th, if you've just done LM 7, or 9th. It's a bit harder - the grammar is focused on parsing, which goes a little more in depth than simple diagramming. With my own students, I've done it for two years in a row, and both years we didn't get through the whole thing and ended up doing unit 4 in 9th grade anyway (it's a short story unit). I did have one student who finished it all in one year -- her mom really insisted and so it happened. I guess I'm not so insistent.

We did LM Americana, and my daughter really liked it. She said it was a challenge but over all has enjoyed it.

Margot what do you recommend once we are done with LMA?
I really wanted my daughter to do Kolbe for high school, but she is leaning towards Seton.
I really don't know, and had been meaning to ask you this, but I wasn't sure if you were going to make it the Southern California Catholic Homeschool Conference.

Hi Claudia,
I won't be in CA this summer !
It was kind of a fluke that I was able to go last year (I was already in the state to help my sister out after her knee surgery - she paid for the ticket . . . and she has no surgery this summer).

I really don't know what the best thing is for high school after the LMs. (I've never done the Kolbe or Seton HS programs, so I don't know how to critique them.) The first year I did LM 8, 2 of my students went on to private school (I didn't homeschool them anymore); the one that stayed with me finished the short story unit in Unit 4 and then we worked did a sentence composing/combining program, poetry, and then literary analysis at the end of the year. We used the Michael Clay Thompson grammar practice books for review because he parses in pretty much the same way I do it in LM 8 (funny coincidence). I guess I better figure things out better before I get too many more in HS (we HS in 3-family co-op), especially my daughter.

Sorry I'm not much help in this!!
Margot
