Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are going to have a microscope for a few weeks this summer, and I have been searching the Internet for simple lesson plans for my 3rd and 4th graders. I found a few on exploring pond water and checking out cells with an onion skin, cheek cells, and potato cells. However, I've also learned that in order to look at things under a microscope, the items must be translucent and wet!   (I never took biology so this is a lesson for me as well! )

A "blue dye" is mentioned to be used with the cheek cells ... can anybody tell me what that is called and where I might easily find it? I know my kids would love to see their cheeks under the microscope!

Thanks a lot!

You are probably looking for methylene blue. You can get it and various other stains from Home Science Tools. Their introductory microscope kit comes with methylene blue as well as iodine, which is good to see starch in potatoes and bananas.
