My dad was hoping to get radiation one more time.. he's been in pain and it's more up in his neck and moving into the jaw this time. They tried to do a simulation to see if they could get him into a position that would allow them to do the radiation (you can only do a certain amount in any one location).. it was too painful. So they talked to the pain managment and have their blessing to dope him up as much as they can and try again today. So they were able to do the simluation.. then they said rather than the 10 minutes of the simulation he'd have to be able to stay in that position 30 minutes (times 10 sessions over about that many days).. and it was all he could do to manage the 10 minutes. So more consulting with the doc.. and while the radiation might help the currently painful spot.. there's a total of about 10 new spots, not just this one.. so the long term help would only be for the pain, not to slow the cancer.

So they've decided not to do the radiation but just manage the pain with drugs


And my parents are giving up the RV. Mom says she just can't do it by herself anymore. They'll be moving up here at the end of the month.. my sister is setting up a bit of space for them in her basement for temporary housing while they try and sell the RV and find a small house to rent instead.

Mixed feelings.. I will sooo love having my mom near.. but knowing it's because dad is getting worse..    

But at the same time.. he was despairing of living until his last birthday (actually my moms last birthday in July) so he has gotten a good bit more and with reasonable quality as well.

I have to tell you though... that people from far and wide, relatives, semi-relatives (my dh's parents for instance), friends etc.. have been helping them out. Money was really really tight, the trips to the docs (50 miles one way) the deductibles on the drugs.. the trip to get them up here.

And they've been blessed with enough funds AS GIFTS to be able to cover all those things.. and apparently there's still a few checks on the way.

Please just pray for all of us but especially for the trip to get them up here. Thank you.

When you said your folks are moving up at the end of the month - did you mean April or May? Just wondering if they made it safely.

I meant May.. they're actually on the road today.. and hope to be here by late tomorrow night.. BIL is supposed to work on Thursday because work needs him but they do understand if he can't make it back that fast. But they're gonna try. I think they might be able to.. it'll be 2 days of driving about 10 hrs. But that's doable.. long but doable. It just depends if my dad can handle it and if the weather cooperates.

I really appreciate all the prayers
