Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

they're on pilgrimage right now in the Holy Land, having left yesterday. today i got this e-mail:

Quote:
Arrived safely in Israel. Tour starts tomorrow. Renewal of marriage vows on 24th in Jerusalem with a priest who is in our group. We are happy and miss you all

papa is 81 and mommy is 75. they will be married 44 years this saturday. every year on their anniversary they try to be "somewhere" significant, enjoying their remaining years together. last year they were in san giovanni rotondo with us, visiting Padre Pio's shrine.

they have some health issues that can get worrisome at times (heart, hypertension, gout, prostate), but they try to keep active despite these. they have been great examples for dh and me as to how marriage can and should be.

please pray for continued health and happiness. thank you so much.

How lovely that their idea of being together in a special place is a pilgrimage! I am praying that they stay safe and healthy during this journey.

Thank you for your prayers! They just got back this morning. They had a beautiful time and renewed their vows at Cana with 11 other couples (talk about goosebumps!). They were walking 8-10 hours a day, and after the 4th day my mom was in pain while walking (gout + walking long distances is generally difficult for her) but she said there was no way she could give up seeing the Garden of Gethsemane, etc. In a way she was carrying her own little cross through the Via Dolorosa, etc. She and I were crying on the phone this morning.

I'm so thankful that they were able to do this at their age. Thank you all so much for your prayers. I told them that a bunch of you were praying for them! They send their thanks and prayers as well.

Wonderful, Stef! Glad they're back safe and sound. I got interupted the other day when I initially read this, but wanted to tell you I got goosebumps reading your initial post! So great that they were able to do this!
