Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A local friend visited the National Gallery of Art and said this exhibition was fabulous:

The Sacred Made Real: Spanish Painting and Sculpture, 1600–1700
February 28–May 31, 2010

National Gallery of Art in DC

Some of these statues came from the Spanish Holy Week Pasos, which I got really interested in this year.

I hope to go visit this before it leaves!

The NGA exhibit was recommended to us from a friend from Spain. We haven't gone yet. She sent us a clip of Pasos which they experience in Leon, Spain: Promo for LEÓN CIUDAD DE SEMANA SANTA.

The music is very dramatic. It's amazing that they do this in the streets.

It is breath taking! My parents (very lovable pagans ) attended this one year and were in awe of all the Spaniards do for Holy Week. They said it is bigger than Christmas there. They got to walk in some of the processions carrying candles. I was green with envy! It funny, they rather look down on Holy Week in the US now that they have seen how it is "really" done!
