Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is this the right thread? Thomas Christopher was born on March 22nd, by semi-emergency c-section due to pregnancy blood pressure issues. He's fine, we're fine, and we've been home for a few days.

We're very grateful.

Thank you. It wasn't the type of birth we were hoping for, but it was safe and fast (I went into maternity triage at 6, the OB told me I could have the baby any time that night, and he was born at 11:20), went well, and recovery has been fine. We're adjusting- I know this is a little ridiculous, but I have no idea how to manage two. I'm an only, and it's interesting figuring things out. Expect some hopelessly ignorant questions (how do you do newborn plus toddler bedtime? How do you chase toddler and keep him from destroying stuff when nursing?)

And now, time for me to nap.

Kyra, your questions aren't "hopelessly ignorant" - they're normal!

Congratulations, Kyra! I understand about the birth not being ideal, but I always tell myself the end result is all that matters -- a healthy baby and Mommy still kicking. Holding that baby is worth all the pain and "loss of plans".

I'd say, keep those nap times for you and the children. That will keep your sanity! You need those quiet times.

Newborn and toddler bedtime -- they didn't seem to match up with me, so I'd put them down one at a time. If the baby is awake at the same time, keep an infant bouncy seat or wear the baby while you have to put the toddler away. Make sure you give him some one-on-one time with Mommy and Daddy, like baths and reading books, singing songs. Nighttime routine is still so important for us, and the routine is something the toddler does like.

As far as nursing with the toddler active, I resorted to some videos at hectic times, or read-alouds that he could sit next to me while I nurse.

Kyra, congrats!! I ended up with baby and toddler at different nap times, and even different bedtimes!! baby always stayed up later with dh and I, while nursing. When weaned, the "baby" graduated to the 8pm-ish bedtime..
I used to make a cozy nest for myself and baby with a comforter and pillows on the floor in a safe bedroom or playroom- essentially blocking the door.
The toddler would play and make a contained mess around us, and I could nurse and even sometimes get some reading done!
and don't feel bad about videos!
love,

Yes- we're heavily into Muppts and Elmos right now. Thankfully, my husband is off for a month (wonderful!) but he's been sick, so there's been lots of video time. And also thankfully our oldest is a book-lover.

Congratulations!

I think that the two youngest ones are always a challenge to juggle, no matter how many children you have. Toddlers thrive on their normal routine, while newborns are more flexible. The challenge is handling your toddler with babe in arms. I will pray that your husband gets well soon so he can help out!
