Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just sharing aloud here, to those who may care ... (or may not). Sometimes I think I should have my own blog, but then again, most times not. Facebook seems hardly appropriate for intimate matters, though some stories give me a good laugh .

I was reading to my girls today, the book A Family Journey with Jesus through Lent , as we've been doing (nearly faithfully), everyday, but today, we are one day behind. (I'd like to add how very much we enjoy this book together. It has surely been a blessing to my little ladies, who are but on the cusp of understanding and deepening their own relationships with Christ). Today, we read The Last Supper , my 5 year old was completely mesmerized within the story, as if she was actually there. And as I was reading the words He took unleavened bread from the table, blessed it, and broke it. Jesus then looked around the table at us and said, 'Take and eat. This is my body.' I took a piece of the bread. Next Jesus took his cup and filled it with wine. He gave thanks to his heavenly Father. Looking at us, he said, 'This is my blood, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.' ... and that's where my water-works begin. My throat starts to close up, my eyes well with water, then tears come streaming down my face. It doesn't quite matter whether or not I'm sitting at home or in the midst of Mass at the Church (surrounded by a rather large number of people), just hearing those words, I burst into tears. I don't know why. I can remember as a small girl crying my way through Communion as well. I don't necessarily understand why I still do it to this day, but one thing is absolutely certain :: It is powerful to take His body and blood, and I pray that my kids feel its power too, and become overwhelmed themselves, with Christ.

I'm not sure why I'm sharing this. Maybe you could share your own sense of overwhelm with me? I'd very much like to hear your stories.

Bless us all this Lent.

You know, my dh has always had a profound devotion to the Eucharist, and we have had discussions over the years about levels of devotion to different (and equally important) aspects of our beloved Faith. Seeing his - I guess you'd call it complete absorption - in the moment-by-moment unfolding of the Eucharistic Prayer inspired me to try to really immerse myself in the Prayer myself.

And, over time, the profound respect I've always had for this holy Sacrament has truly deepened and expanded. These days I can be moved to tears just by being in church, even during the pre-Mass bustle (our church is being reconstructed, so we have Mass in the hall - with no gathering space - so things are noisy). It's amazing but nearly impossible to describle.

Isn't it an awesome responsibility - and a joy-filled one - to pass on all of this to our children?

Thanks for sharing, Chris!

Isn't it fascinating how we can react emotionally. I'm usually ok (not crying) if I have my kids with me, I'm enough distracted that it simply doesn't happen.

But oh my, when I go to, for example, adoration, by myself.

Though for me it's not been an always thing, but rather since we lost the baby last summer, I guess it just makes those emotions a bit closer to the surface these days.

Yes. When I read the story of Bl. Imelda to my First Communicants and I get to the part where she died of pure joy after receiving Our Lord in Holy Communion, I just weep. My heart just swells with wonder, love, adoration of Our Blessed Lord! The same thing happens to me during the Easter readings and the Road to Emmaus. The part where the disciples turn to each other and say, "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?”

and St. Thomas falling to his knees and saying, "My Lord and My God!" Waterworks are on full blast...

It makes me think of the Psalm, The Lord has done great things for us, we are filled with joy!

Blessed Imelda- wow, that is a powerful story. My mother gets mad at me... says I give her these teary-eyed books to read to the kids with no warning
